01 Hexamoll® DINCH – the trusted non-phthalate plasticizer

This guide details the visual elements that support the Hexamoll® DINCH brand. By following this guide, you help to define Hexamoll® DINCH for our customers, partners, and our industry at large. Equally important, you help them recognize, differentiate and remember us.

Product Introduction Hexamoll® DINCH is the product brand name for a non-phthalate plasticizer, specifically developed for sensitive applications. The product is dedicated to safety: it shows an excellenct toxicologial profile with low migration rates and is approved and certified worldwide for a broad range of applications like flooring, wallcovering, coated fabrics, sport products as well as highly sensitive applications such as food contact, medical devices or toys.

Brand Name Hexamoll® DINCH’s chemical name is Diisononyl 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid. “Hexa” is the Greek word for “six” – in reference to the ring of six carbon atoms in cyclohexane. “Moll“ is a suffix, which is used for a large part of the BASF plasticizer portfolio (e.g. Plastomoll®, Palamoll®) and it is short for “mollify”, which comes from the Latin word “mollificare” – meaning “soften”.

02 Brand Value Proposition of Hexamoll® DINCH

The BASF Brand Value Proposition serves as a brand tool and represents the peak performances of Hexamoll® DINCH.A strong brand creates a clear and differentiated sense of its peak performances in the mind of its stakeholders. To do this, a brand must present its audiences with a value proposition that is unique, attractive and relevant. With this proposition, a brand evokes positive emotions and gives those audiences comfort in their buying decisions. It is all about trust being built up.

This value proposition describes:

Our competencies (What we are best at)

The resulting benefits for our stakeholders (What our stakeholders get) and

Our values (What we are like)

“Connected” is the one word equity and most condensed expression of the BASF brand. It means good relationships, value-adding partnerships and strong connections with stakeholders, as well as our Verbund system. This is the central point we want to anchor in the minds of our target groups worldwide.Accordingly, the one word equity for Hexamoll® DINCH is “safe”: Hexamoll® DINCH is the trusted non-phthalate plasticizer for leading brands with close human contact.

On the right, you may find the BASF value proposition in the inner circle and the Hexamoll® DINCH value proposition in the outer circle.

04 Hexamoll® DINCH brand ambassador “Dinchy”

Due to its properties, Hexamoll® DINCH is a friend to humans. We take this literally and created a loveable character, which you can experience. The little doll “Dinchy”, made of soft-PVC, accompanies us across the different areas of application. It is our target to create an emotional atmosphere in the technical plasticizer business.

Two core aspects are in our focus:

The first one is “close to humans”. The brand ambassador is placed on a realistic hand to highlight the closeness between humans and the application areas of Hexamoll® DINCH.

The second is safety, which is also symbolized in the closeness between humans and Hexamoll® DINCH to show the harmlessness in dealing with our product.

Any changes to this design need to be aligned with the Hexamoll® DINCH brand manager.

05 Brand logo Hexamoll® DINCH

As a field 3 brand in the BASF Verbund brand architecture, Hexamoll® DINCH as individual brand and BASF as umbrella brand are of equal significance.

They are always used in combination as depicted below.

There needs to be sufficient space between the BASF and Hexamoll® DINCH logo and other graphic elements as depicted below.

The arch as the graphic element next to the word DINCH, symbolizes the flexibility (i.e. bendability), which can be achieved when Hexamoll® DINCH is being used as plasticizer in PVC products.

08 Brand Alliances: Example “Ingredient Branding”

Brand AlliancesSelected partners can become brand alliance partners for Hexamoll® DINCH. This is a strategic tool that strengthens the relationship we have with our customers and that differentiates them from their competitors. One brand alliance possibility is ingredient branding.

Hexamoll® DINCH ingredient brandingThe Hexamoll® DINCH Ingredient brand visualization is used for endorsement of soft-PVC products containing Hexamoll® DINCH as primary plasticizer. Advantages for manufactures may be:

show consumers the use of a toxicologically advanced product leave anonymity and indicate traceability for a product ingredient justify price premiums set trends in the market with the use of Hexamoll® DINCH differentiate from competitors

Hexamoll® DINCH ingredient branding processWe mainly offer this opportunity for manufacturers in the Asia Pacific market. The prerequisite for a customer to become brand alliance partner is to become a member of the Asian Hexamoll® DINCH Trusted Partners Program (for details, please see our website).

As a brand alliance is a sensitive matter due to certain risks resulting from an increased visibility and partnering with another brand, a brand alliance check has to be passed.

If the Hexamoll® DINCH brand shall be a partner in a brand alliance – appearing with an external partner - ensure the best possible appearance of the BASF brand and make sure that the roles and responsibilities of our brand and the partner’s brand/s are clarified.

In case of an intended brand alliance and in case of the requested use of the Hexamoll® DINCH logo by a third party, please contact the brand manager of Hexamoll® DINCH.

For general information on brand alliances, please see the BASF Brand Portal: https://brandportal.basf.com/global/en/learn/brand-management/brand-alliances.html

08 Brand Alliances: Example “Ingredient Branding”

Brand alliance visualizationsWe will define our preferred visualization with the alliance parther. Therefore, we have designed 3 versions of the brand alliance visualization, which should prefer-ably be used for ingredient branding cases.

In third party communication materials, Hexamoll® DINCH´s role is always made clear through a relationship statement placed near the logo. In this case “made with the plasticizer”. Also, the ownership rights of the brand are clarified – in this case by “a brand of BASF”.

The more room for explanations we can secure on the end-product packaging, the better for describing the Hexamoll® DINCH product performance and additional value. But we understand that, e.g. due to the end-product packaging size, we have to be flexible and be prepared for small spaces as well.

The claim “care in every touch” This a very emotional claim, which serves the purpose of highlighting the suitability for sensitive applications with close human contact. More than €7 million have been invested in toxicological research of Hexamoll® DINCH and it was classified as an “Accelerator” in BASF’s Sustainable Solution Steering program for its contribution to the sustainability of the customers’ industries in enhancing health and safety aspects.

“care in” refers to Hexamoll® DINCH as the ingredient inside. Care has been given to develop and assess the performance of the product.

“touch” signifies trust – a decision to interact with the product knowing that it is safe for its intended use.

You may find the agreed logos on the right, but please contact your brand manager or brand champion to dicuss specific cases.

Hexamoll® DINCH® becomes emotional!

Due to its properties, Hexamoll® DINCH® is a friend to humans. We take this literally and created a loveable character which you can experience. The little white doll made of soft-PVC accompanies us across the different areas of application. It is our target to create an emotional atmosphere in the technical plasticizer business.

Two core aspects are in our focus. The first one is “close to humans”. The brand ambassador is placed on a realistic hand to highlight the closeness between human and application. In addition, the familarity symbolizes the harmlessness in dealing with Hexamoll® DINCH®. This guides us to core aspect 2 – SAFE.
