THE POPULATION AROUND THE PASIG RIVER SUFFERS SEVERE CONDITIONS FROM DENSITY, POLLUTION, AND FLOODING. CREATING A SELF SUSTAINING ISLAND WILL ALLEVIATE PRESSURE ON THE ALREADY BURDENED CITY AND SERVE AS A FILTER FOR THE STUDENTS ON THE ISLAND AND THE SURROUNDING POPULATION. ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO CLEAN THE RIVER WITH LITTLE SUCCESS. A CONSTANT SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE PUT INTO PLACE IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE LIVING CONDITIONS SURROUNDING THE PASIG RIVER. WITH EACH BAR OF THE ISLAND THE WATER AND AIR ARE BEING CLEANED AND REDISTRIBUTED TO THE STUDENTS ON THE ISLAND AS WELL AS THE CITY OF MANILA.

THIS PROJECT STUDIES THE INTERSECTION OF WATER, DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC SPACE IN AHMEDABAD. 90% OF AHMEDABADS POPULATION REPORT HEALTH PROBLEMS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE CONSUMPTION OF CONTAIMINATED WATER. THE SHRINKAGE OF THE WATER TABLE FROM THE OVERUSE OF WELLS AND EXPONENTIAL POPULATION GROWTH HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE TAINTED AND DIMINISHING SUPPLY.
FOR THIS PROJECT WE TRAVELED TO AHMEDABAD TO SEE FIRST HAND THE IMPORTANCE OF URBAN PLANNING ON A CITY AND HUMAN LEVEL.
