Volunteers are the backbone and heart of Habitat whether they wield a hammer, microphone, price gun, or keyboard! Check out some facts about the value of volunteers at CCHFH.
In the U.S. last year, 62.8 million Americans volun-teered 7.9 billion hours. The average value of a volunteer hour is $23.04, and the esti-mated value of this volunteer service is nearly $184 billion.
Volunteers have 27% higher odds of finding a job after be-ing out of work than non-vol-unteers. This may be due to several factors, including developing new skills and ex-panding personal networks.

Volunteering strengthens our community by bring-ing together people to help build a home with a part-ner family. By volunteering in your community, you have a chance to give back.
Volunteers are almost twice as likely to donate as non- volunteers. Nearly 80% of vol-unteers donated, compared to 40 percent of non-volunteers. Overall, half of all Americans donated at least $25 last year.

ReStore volunteers MUST be 15 years of age or older

Why should you use social media?• To showcase your brand/company• To build a business-client relationship• To increase your exposure• To enhance your company’s trustworthiness• To create brand credibility

What social media sites should you use?Overall, it is shown that Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram are some of the top social media sites for networking for your business. Here are some stats and tips for how to use each one:

Why should you use Facebook? It has the highest number of visitors so your company is more likely to be seen and it is a casual setting.

Why should you use Twitter? It can be used as a strong customer service tool to engage your audience and you can retweet information that is relevant to your business.

Determined girl with a diverse set of mass communication skills

Raquel Gonzales is a passionate student at Texas State University who excels in every task she comes across. Gonzales began her education at the University of Washington and transferred to Texas State Uni-versity as soon as she realized she was meant to be a Bobcat. She loves the people and atmosphere at Texas State and finds herself a lot happier since she transferred to San Marcos.
Gonzales worked for the University News Service and was even asked to work for the University Star. Her work ethic prevented her from taking on the extra responsibility, due to her heavy school load. Gonzales’ writing experi-ence started long before her time as a Bobcat; she began writing for her high school newspaper, The Peninsula Out-look. Gonzales says she learned how to take constructive criticism and improve her writing skills immensely while working for the Peninsula Outlook and University News Service. Her published articles can be found at www.txstate.edu/news.
Not only can she take construc-tive criticism, but she can also give it. Gonzales has held leadership positions throughout her academic career includ-ing managing a staff at the Peninsula Outlook and training new employees at a retail job. She says her leadership experience taught her to be a good role model.
Gonzales has volunteered at mul-tiple festivals, giving her real-world experience. At the X Games Austin she managed a booth and oversaw other volunteers. Gonzales sold merchandise and worked with artists three summers in a row at the Creation Festival North-west. She also has ample experience with managing finances after working as a tax preparer for Villegas y Villegas.
Gonzales says her strongest asset is working well on a team with all types of people. Her main goal is to find an internship to further expand her skills in public relations and web design. Thanks to her skills in AP Style, web coding, Microsoft Office, Photo-shop and blogging, she would benefit any company looking to improve their public relations or web-content depart-ments.
