BRIEF INTRODUCING THE BUILDING.

The Institute of Contemporary Art is located in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It was built in 2006 in the Boston harbor and designed by architects Diller Scofi dio + Renfro. The 65,000 square foot building includes 18,000 square feet of galleries, a performing arts theater, a restaurant, a bookstore, education/workshop facilities, and offi ces. The public building is built from the ground up; the intimate building, from the sky down.

RELATION BETWEENPRIVATE AND PUBLIC

UnblockingDiagram

This diagram shows relation between pri-vate and public space in ICA. The line in middle of graph is a base line. Base line means no more private and also no more public. In harbor or in public plaza, we are in the 100% public space. As we go in to the building deeper, the proportion of public

space decrease and private space is in-crease.I think if building has public spaces among private space, it can be engage people in-side of building naturally.

GENERAL CONCLUSIONSWhat I interested in this project, is harmony with nature(harbor) and building. The building dis-tributes the view to the harbor in small doses. 1.at the lobby entry, 2.vertically by the glass elevator, 3.at auditorium, 4.panorama at the north gallery corridor, 5.edited to only the texture of water at the mediatheque. I gave concept name to this project, named Journey through the building. Because when peo-ple go into ICA, they through various program. That programs will be more public or more private. I think this make people can feel like some journey in one building.

POSITIVE ASPECTSPublic space is located in harbor side because architects considered about people who live nearby site. I think giving public spaces to neighbors as much as possible is gonna be a good effect to city.

NEGATIVE ASPECTSPublic space and private space didnt mixed actively. The auditorium can be a good example. Auditoriums seats continues inside to outside, but actually it continues just visually. There are curtain wall between auditoriums inside and outside. I think if Auditorium seats also continues to outside phisically, it can make more dynamic space.
