welcomeWhether youre a returning designer or just starting, welcome to Blue & White. I

hope youre as excited as I am to make this semester the best b&w has ever had!Last semester brought a lot of good changes, and I want us to keep improving. To me,improvement is more than just looking better. Its new marketing ideas, creative storiesand angles, and innovative designs.

The wonderful thing about being a b&w designer is that youre not limited to designing.Youre welcome and encouraged to contribute story ideas and even writethem as well as suggest ways to enhance our reputation and revenue, and increaseour readership.

Our goal is to make Blue & White the best campus magazine out there. We need yourhelp and ideas to accomplish that, so dont be afraid to speak up and speak out! Werelistening.

my visionfor b&wBet you think you already read this, dont you? I used the word vision

because I want to talk about how Isee b&ws style.

When I arrived on staff, designswere ecclectic to say the least. Everyfeature spread looked completelydifferent from every other. Diversityis good, but each page of a magazineis only part of the whole. The pagesshould blend together to create aholistic image.

I want Blue & Whites image to besimple and classy, but not stuffy. Iwant it to look like a professionalmagazine designed by students whotake industry trends and make themtheir own.

When I became Art Director, Iworked to redesign the magazinewith those goals in mind. I took ideas

from some of my favorite magazines, like O Magazine, InStyle and Yoga

Journal, and I encourage you to dothe same in your designs.

Infuse each design with yourpersonal style, but use the guidelinesthat follow to make sure it blendsseamlessly into the b&w style.

    Chcek out thedifference

    between the old b&w layouts

(black stroke) andthe new b&w style

(pink stroke). Allof the old layouts

    appeared in thesame issue!
