AGENDA

SESSION LEAD:

Judith Hewitson, Interactive Learning Scenario Specialist, Reality Learning

How can VR and video narrative combine to deliver both immersive and engaging training? Both

mediums play different roles in instructional design. Together they can achieve greater outcomes in

empathy, motivation, deep learning, attitude and behaviour change. Judith combines 2d and 360 video

in the production of a web-based documentary – for learning. The documentary ‘Night Becomes Day’ is

transformed into eLearning narratives that audiences experience as VR and interactive video within

short or long training programs. With Living in Limbo, the approach is aimed at engaging, diverse

audiences world-wide, targeting those seeking to learn about different aspects of living and working

with displaced people, refugees and asylum seekers.

12:10 –12:40 TRAILBLAZER SESSIONS

How do you ensure the learner experience is still engaging and relevant when you have limited budget,

time and resources? This presentation will take you through one of our recent projects, developed for

Driving Examiners, that provided us with some unique challenges and show you how we overcame

these to create an engaging online experience.

Outside the Box Designing - Creating Engaging Learning Despite the Challenges

10https://www.idesignx.net.au [email protected]

AGENDA

Voice technology is becoming essential to everyday life. Speech recognition accuracy has gone from

95 to 99 percent, which has people using it all the time. In less than two years, 50 percent of searches

online will be performed via voice. Voice is faster, less cumbersome, near-universal, and effective. It’s

natural! So why not use it to deliver just-in-time training for your learner. In this session, you’ll find out

how to define voice experience (VX) design, how to ensure your voice is natural and how you can use VX

skills in your organization to deliver just-in-time training.

TOPIC:

TOPIC:

Rethinking Accessibility: Designing High Quality Learning Experiences with Accessibilityin Mind

SESSION LEAD:

Martin Van de Weyer, Senior Learning Designer, Smart Sparrow

Accessibility is a necessity for high-quality learning experiences, but it is more than purely a technical

concern. In this session you will examine common points of friction when designing for accessibility,

and learn to improve the inclusivity of your online learning environments. Martin will share the

development and implementation of the NSW Department of Education's award-winning accessibility

initiative as a case study.

TOPIC:

The Power of Story in the Future of Work

SESSION LEAD:

Jason Reed, Learning Experience Designer & Screenwriter, Croomo

What’s the common thread among the best learning design? Story. It almost doesn’t matter which tools,

tech, or medium you use, the thing that everyone responds to is storytelling. If you can build a narrative

into what you’re doing, it will resonate with people. This presentation will look at examples of how

storytelling is woven into learning design to achieve the best outcomes. The future of learning has the

same foundation as always. Now it’s about finding new ways to tell and present stories.

Peter Clowes, VR Specialist, Maxart

If you think building VR education and training applications for the staff in your organisation is hard, try

building effective VR education and training applications for your customers. In this session, we will

take you through all the mistakes we made designing a VR training application for use by the general

public. You’ll learn what not to do when approaching an audience that is highly varied, complex and

often inexperienced with VR technology. And on the flipside, what design techniques we used that

were successful in building a highly effective training and customer experience for users.

AGENDA

SESSION LEAD:

James Bevelander, Group Digital Learning Manager, Cotton On Group

Video is a great medium to deliver learning, but it’s just a vehicle. No one wants to watch something that

is boring, predictable and lacks imagination. This session is full of practical tips and techniques any

learning professional (regardless of skill level or budget) can apply to make their next video project an

engaging and meaningful one for the learner. I’ll showcase and dissect some videos and animations I’ve

produced over the years. These case studies will highlight the power that great ideas, executed well, can

have in shaping an impactful learning experience.

TOPIC:

Let’s Wage War on Boring Learning Videos!

This session will explore the use of digital technology in eLearning, current trends and how to apply

appropriate instructional strategies and learning theory to effectively engage your learners and take

them on a memorable learning journey. Topics discussed include: the rise of rapid authoring tools, SAS
