“ Designing small footprints with a Big Impact” Monica Baille

Landmark Architecture specializes in contemporary design for communities that require environmentally-responsive design and revitalization services.

We can help clients to verifiably reduce the operating costs of community facilities by applying green technology. We focus our energy on projects that benefit from our substantial experience designing civic architecture for the long-term benefit of communities.

If you are looking for modern, efficient, compact, and environmentally-responsive facilities, Landmark’s involvement will result in distinctive and cost effective solutions that integrate architecture, technology and the environment.

Landmark is different from its competition - we don’t just want to design a building we want to provide lasting value to your community with every project. We produce all of our own construction documents including specifications. We are proud of our reputation for being responsive to clients and their needs regardless of the scale of the project.

As architects and community facilitators, we can take on each project from the initial feasibility study, through design options to construction and commissioning. We believe small interventions in a community can and should have a large and lasting positive impact.

Design Philosophy

Landmark Architecture specializes in contemporary design for communities that require environmentally-responsive design and revitalization services.

Fobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbdesign abbbbbbbbes.

As an architect I am the midwife of a process. When I intervene in nature and make a mark, I want to be as certain as possible that I could not make the building better. I work with my clients, and convey all I know about architecture that will help their project manifest itself in the best way. My greatest joy is discovering a really great resolution through interaction and sharing of the design process.

My main contribution to the process is building the sense of community and ownership in a project that will give the project it’s greatness.

As an architect midwife I am good to have along. At the same time I know I am only one small part of delivering something that all those who touch will be proud of it for generations to come. Monica Baillie

Family Place - Parksville, BC

Located in Parksville B.C. Family Place is designed to provide stigma-free services to families in a campus-like setting. This 21,000 square foot community facility will be purpose-built to provide service delivery spaces and office spaces for the Vancouver Island Health Authority, School District 69 Qualicum, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Services provided include pre and post natal classes, immunization clinics, family counselling, and an early intervention team for families with children who are hard of hearing or who require occupational or physical therapy. It allows families that are functioning with difficulty to have support, be exposed to healthy activity and nutrition classes, and connect with families that are functioning i! n a healt The building’s form, with sloped roofs and articulated gables, integrates the structure into the adjacent residential neighbourhood. A portion of the building is nestled into the site to reduce the overall mass and keep it in the scale of the neighbourhood. The building envelope was designed to be very energy efficient. Family Place is designed as a durable and sustainable facility, to healthy LEED Gold standards. It will be owned and operated by the School District and will be a lasting asset to the community. It is the first LEED project designed in the City of Parksville and it will serve a very diverse community.

Lantzville Municipal Hall - Lantzsville, BC

This municipal hall was part of a master plan for the core of a new municipality that was until recently like a suburb of the City of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.

The design is very compact to allow development with limited resources. It takes into consideration future growth and and appropriate scale of developent for a small community.

Burnaby Public Library & Civic Square - BurnabyMonica Baillie, Intern with James Cheng Architect

The city of Burnaby developed this Library as a civic anchor to the Metro-town commercial development. It was sensitively located so that it would be near future rapid transit to allow easy access to all citizens.

You do not have to be a resident of Burnaby to borrow materials so it serves a very wide community. It was developed with space for the Fraser Valley Regional Library Association that would permit BPL to expand in the future.
