The Southern Autonomous Region (RAAS) is one of the poorest regionsin Nicaragua, which is the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
Bluefields population is 50,000 and 90% of the population lives on less than$2.00 a day.
A wastepicking group has organized and is building a recycling business called Luz DelFuturo. The group is made up of 26 women and around 150 children whowork in the dumpsite alongside their mothers.
The group needs to build a school and wants to make it an integral part of theircommunity. A safe, beautiful, and environmentally sensitive school, designed and built in
partnership with the community will provide education for their children as well as ameeting space for the community.
