highlights of hong kongDon’t miss out on Hong Kong’s wealth of attractions, adventures and experiences

A British colony until 1997, modern day Hong Kong is one of two Chinese

Special Administrative Regions, along with neighboring Macau. The fourth most densely populated area in the world, the bustling city sprawls from central Hong Kong Island across Victoria Harbor to the Kowloon Peninsula and outwards to include the New Territories and 262 further outlying islands.

Dominated by ever-higher-reaching skyscrapers, the cityscape comes alive at night when the city lights illuminate the harbor frontier. Standing below the magnificent Victoria Peak, bustling Hong Kong boasts a wealth of attractions and designer outlets to lure visitors from the stunning views of super-luxury, top-floor suites. Here East and West cultures meet

in style, but to the east and west of the city you will find desolate beaches, island and protected parkland.

With outstanding hospitality to complement the ever-increasing standards of luxury, Hong Kong is sure to be an outstanding experience for the elite traveler to savor and return to.

TIAN TAN BUDDHA / PO LIN MONASTERY / WISDOM PATHKnown as the Big Buddha, sitting above Ngong Ping on Lantau Island, the Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery symbolize the harmonious relationship between people, nature and religion. Marvel at the mountain scenery from the luxury of the Ngong Ping 360 Crystal Cabin, then take a tour of the plateau to appreciate the compelling presence of the Buddha and the ornate detail of the Po Lin Monastery. Finish your tour with a stroll around the Wisdom Path, lined with wooden pillars that display the revered ‘Heart Sutra’ prayer.

THE PEAKTowering over the city, Victoria Peak offers unparalleled and breathtaking panoramas across the fusion of greenery, water and the vertical city that is Hong Kong. Most dramatically accessed by the Peak Tram, The Peak is a natural attraction that cannot be missed and an experience that will not be forgotten. Plan your visit carefully: go at dusk to see the sunset behind the soaring skyscrapers and the city lights slowly bloom far beneath you. The Peak Lookout’s terrace is the place to enjoy a drink before taking the tram back down to earth.

CHINESE LUNAR FESTIVALSBased on the lunar calendar, celebrations of traditional Chinese holidays are colorful and vibrant affairs to wow locals and visitors alike. The longest and largest is the Chinese New Year, lasting until the Lantern Festival some 14 days later, but all Chinese festivals tempt thousands of people out onto the streets and squares of Hong Kong to celebrate. The atmosphere at festival time is a unique and exhilarating way to experience the culture of modern and traditional Hong Kong.

VIEW FROM THE PEAK AT NIgHT

HAPPY VALLEY RACESHappy Valley has been the home of horse racing in Hong Kong since 1846 and the buzz of Wednesday night racing at the ultra-sophisticated track is a thrill and experience for locals and visitors alike. Champagne flows in the private boxes, which are perfect viewpoints for elite guests to enjoy the entertainment and exemplary hospitality.

MorningBoard the iconic Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island. From there, take a taxi to the western end of Hollywood Road, take a look inside the Man Mo temple then stroll eastwards down Hollywood Road, stopping off in the antique shops and art galleries along the way.

Hollywood Road then intersects with the Mid-Levels Escalator, which connects the Mid-Levels residential area to the Central Business District. Stroll along the escalator path and check out the little boutiques and local market on Graham Street and Peel Street, as well as Staunton Street. Make your way to Wyndham Street, which is filled with trendy restaurants, pubs, nightclubs and art galleries. Continue to Queen’s Road Central, where you’ll find upscale shopping at The Landmark and the quaintly restored Pedder Building.

If you start to get hungry, stop off at Dragon-i for a dim sum lunch. In the late evening, Dragon-i becomes one of the city’s hippest clubbing venues.

afternoonReturn to Kowloon by the Star Ferry and

stroll down Canton Road, where you will find many designer megastores as well as Harbor City, the largest shopping mall in Hong Kong. Before leaving the vicinity, go across the street to check out ‘1881 Heritage’, a beautifully restored colonial building, formerly the Marine Police Headquarters and now home to luxury brand boutiques and top jewelers.

Take a taxi to the jade market, where you will find a vast assortment of semi-precious carvings, trinkets and souvenirs. Don't forget to negotiate!

eVeningRelax with a 45-minute pre-dinner cocktail cruise on board Aqua Luna, a beautiful authentic Chinese junk. If you take the 7.30pm cruise, you can enjoy the nightly ‘Symphony of Lights’, which starts at 8pm each evening and lasts for 13 minutes. It’s also a fabulous way to view Victoria Harbor and the amazing skyline, especially at night before setting off for dinner at one of many recommended restaurants. Afterwards, return to InterContinental Hong Kong for a nightcap and one of the signature ‘Nine Dragon Cocktails’ in the Lobby Lounge, which offers dramatic views of Victoria Harbor and the Hong Kong Island skyline along with live music by guest jazz artists.

The “Mystery Setting” is the renowned technique dedicated to the creativity and craftsmenship of the Maison. It’s an exclusive procedure applies mainly to rubies and sapphires which eliminates visible claws and enhances the sparkle and purity of precious stones and diamonds. Patented by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1934, this unique skill requires both virtuosity and an incredible amount of time to complete an extraordinary piece.

De Beers DiamonD JewellersPhone: +852 2118 2321Email: [email protected]: The Landmark, G1-2 Ground Floor, Central, Hong KongWebsite: www.debeers.com

Located in the heart of Hong Kong at the Landmark shopping mall, the De Beers Diamond Jewellers flagship is the ultimate destination for diamond jewellery.

De Beers brings over 120 years of peerless diamond expertise and passion for diamond jewellery to one of the city’s premiere luxury shopping centers, showcasing the brand’s full range of unique High Jewellery creations and stunning solitaires, as well as Bridal designs and timeless classic jewellery.

With an unrivalled understanding of what makes a diamond extraordinary, De Beers first introduced the concept of the 4Cs (carat weight, clarity, cut and color) to consumers in 1939 and continues to pioneer and set the standard for assessing diamonds.

Experts at the De Beers Institute of Diamonds assess each individual diamond for perfection of cut, proportions and natural transparency to

ensure that each De Beers diamond exhibits exceptional beauty and sparkle.

According to Andrew Coxon, President of De Beers Institute of Diamonds, “Every De Beers diamond is meticulously hand-selected to ensure that it has exceptional Fire, Life and Brilliance. We know that our highly discerning clients will no doubt appreciate the superior sparkle and transparency that our specially selected diamonds exhibit.”

Fire, Life and Brilliance is a new and unique way of looking at diamonds beyond the established 4Cs, whereby “Fire” represents the dispersion of light into the rainbow of colors that our eyes see; “Life” is the scintillation or sparkle of the diamond; and “Brilliance” refers to the diamond’s natural transparency.

Coxon adds, “To help showcase this, each De Beers store is equipped with a De Beers Iris, a unique technology that helps customers clearly see the beauty of every diamond through the eyes of an expert.”

Furthermore, De Beers has developed an advanced proprietary technology to brand each diamond over 0.20 carats with a “De Beers Marque” which uniquely identifies it as a specially selected De Beers diamond.
