DESTINY’S CHILD’S BIO…Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle

Williams are the trio that have made it huge for Destiny’s Child. The group have sold 40 million records world wide even when there were two other girls in the group. The girls specialised in r&b, soul, hip-hop and pop which appealed to a wide audience. Their style and theme is all about women empowerment, sisterhood and female and male relationships which is all evident in their lyrics. They all had a chance to have lead vocals on songs which shows equality in their group.

One of their influences was Janet Jackson as they loved and was inspired by her story and music. They were also compared to The Supremes because of there iconic music.

Even though they split up after many years of created successful music they are very close and Destiny’s Child music is still remembered.

SAY MY NAME‘Say My Name’ is a pop song made by Destiny’s Child

when two girls were fired and Michelle and another were hired. The song is a pop song and follows the conventions of having pretty girls, glamorous settings, dancing and a good looking guy. They pose also on every beat which shows that the music matches the visuals but also shows that these women are glamorous and superstars. The setting of the living rooms are very modern and stylish which represents the band. Also at the end when they are dancing they are by black cars which are also very cool.

The only relationship between the lyrics and visuals is when Beyonce sings ‘times two’ and she does the number two with her hands. The song is mainly about them posing on every beat and when the chorus comes they dance. Their movements are in time of the beat.

There are many close ups of all four of the members. One because of Beyonce and Kelly being well known but also to introduce the new members of the group. Destiny’s Child’s music is very empowering to women which reflects in their video. This video is shown as one man being isolated with women dominating.

INDEPENDENT WOMENAgain another video that glamorises

Destiny’s Child and shown in the title of the song talks about empowering women. The song is about women learning skills from The Charlie’s Angels. They are set in this futuristic, colourful and bright classroom.

The lyrics and visuals have a relationship when they sing ‘throw your hands up at me’.

The cuts go with the beat of the song and they dance with the beat of the song too. If it stops they stop if it’s more of an instrumental they dance. There are a lot of close ups because of how famous Destiny’s Child are.

The intertextual reference is Charlie’s Angel the film. They are wanting to promote this independent women film through a group that represent independent women.

Again, this video contains only one man whom they have a fight with. It shows again them being glamorous and not needing a man. They wear revealing clothes when wearing gold however, they carry themselves in a sexy sophisticated way rather than tacky.

SURVIVOR

Survivor is a song that represents the title and tells a story of how Destiny’s Child has survived in their career. The intertextual reference is in the lyrics of how they have had criticism and hatred on the internet but they would never do that.

In this video they are again presented as tough and strong but being the only three women surrounded by men. They are wearing revealing clothing to show off their amazing figures. It contradicts their whole ideology because of how empowering they are but they’re showing off their bodies.

Again there are many close ups to show how beautiful they are but also to express their emotion.

HOW THIS LINKS TO ‘NO SCRUBS’Destiny’s Child will link into No Scrubs

and my band Scarlett Divas. They are glamorous and sexy at the same time as being inspirational and powerful.

We want Scarlett Divas to give the same affect to an audience as Destiny’s Child does. They turn the angry lyrics into beautiful videos.

Scarlett Divas will be the new generation of Destiny’s Child.
