Since its foundation in 1967, Emerald Group Publishing Limited has grown to be one ofthe world’s most important publishers of scholarly journals in business and management.

In recent years Emerald, in common with most other publishers, has offered access to our journalsonline. We were amongst the first publishers to offer a digitised database of journals, more thanten years ago. Emerald’s simple and liberal licensing agreements were a benchmark at the time.

Emerald’s simple yet sophisticated search engine is supported by a number of uniquefeatures, all of which make accessing content quick, straightforward and effective.

SEARCH AND BROWSING

To ensure that users can quickly achieve results specific to theirresearch, Emerald Management Xtra’s custom-made searchengine offers both quick and advanced search options. Theadvance search includes a number of fields to search across,and normal Boolean operators allow users to make their searchas simple or complex as necessary. The browse function enablesusers to keep up to date with current developments at either ajournal or subject level.

Results

Emerald Management Xtra allows searches of full text articles,reviews or both, simply by selecting the appropriate option.Results can be sorted according to relevance, date order, etc.Users can gain instant access to the full text of articlespublished by Emerald. Where a selected paper is a review andnot published by Emerald, there are two options for retrievingthe full text:

1. If the subscribing library holds the paper in digital form, theuser should be able to obtain instant full text access (via librarysystems authentication).

2. If the subscribing library does not hold it in digital form, theuser should be able to obtain instant access to the full textarticle through document delivery systems such as Infotrieveand the British Library.

STRUCTURED ABSTRACTS

Structured abstracts provide consistent article summaries toallow users to see whether an article is appropriate for theirresearch and ensure that all of the abstracts follow a standardformat, covering:
