Nelumbo nucifera is considered an important traditional

herb and all parts of it are used in medicine. It showed anti-

diabetic, anti-obesity attributes, refrigerant, astringent and

diuretic actions (Nguyen, 1999. In many Asian states the

seeds are used as an antidepressant and to inhibit

inflammation (Bi et al, 2006). Lotus is rich in compounds such

as alkaloids (demethylcolaurine, isoliensinine, liensinine,

Lotusine, methylocrypalline, neferine, nuciferine, and

pronuciferine), flavonoids (galuteolin, hyperine, rutin) and

some microelements [Zn, Fe, Ca, and Mg] (Bi et al, 2006).

The seed extracts have shown hepatoprotective and free

radical scavenging effects (Ono et al, 2006).

This study aims to prove the Phytotherapy Potential

of Pink Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) and its effect when

infused with health and wellness product. Different plant

parts of the Pink Lotus were tested for its antibacterial

potential against gram-positive – S. aureus,

Streptococcus and gram-negative – E. coli using Paper

Disc Diffusion Assay.

The antipyretic and analgesic potentials of Lotus

(Nelumbo nucifera) extract was screened using

experimental animals which were orally injected of the

treatments and observed for data gathering while the

anti- inflammatory potential of Lotus (nelumbo nucifera)-

Beeswax ointment in Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus).

The development of Natural Products from Lotus

used different procedures and were compared and were

modified to suit the nature of the plant to its utilization.

Lotus pink petal extract is active against gram-

positive bacteria but not in gram-negative. Lotus seed

ointment and lotus pink petal ointment is active against S.

aureus but not lotus seed ointment. Lotus honey soap is

active against E. coli and S. Aureus. Results on the anti-

inflammatory potential of Lotus based- beeswax ointment

showed that there was no significant difference among

the treatments and that the treatments were comprable to

the commercial treatment which proves the anti-

inflammatory potential of Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera)-

beeswax ointment. Coming from the results obtained

lotus flower extract was the most effective in curing fever.

While in terms of analgesic effect, Lotus leaf extract was

the most effective.

Hence, lotus can be utilized as an

alternative medicine and in the

development of an effective plant based

health products.

The development of technology

for the Production of Natural Products

from Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) could

promote product diversification .
