Total Participation Techniques How do we get ALL students to participate and be engaged in our classrooms? This workshop, based on the book Total Participation Techniques by Himmele and Himmele, offers alternatives to “stand and deliver” teaching and focuses on making every student an active learner. Teachers will leave the workshop with a variety of ready-to-use strategies that can be used across all contents and across all grade levels.

Survival Kit for New Teachers New teachers know how to make a lesson plan and are confident with content - but what about everything else? This workshop walks new teachers through how to manage the classroom, what to do the first day of school, how to communicate with parents, how to incorporate reading and writing across the curriculum, how to manage assessment, how to incorporate technology in the classroom, how to have a brain-based classroom, and how to motivate students.

Teach Like a Champ: Make Your Classroom Run Smoothly This 3-hour workshop is for teachers K-12 who desire to create a positive and lifelong impact on student learning. Teachers will leave with 49 simple, ready to use, techniques. The strategies will focus on: helping students set high academic expectations, planning that ensures academic achievement, structuring and delivering your lessons, engaging students in your lessons, creating a strong classroom culture, setting and maintaining high behavioral expectations, and challenging students to think critically.

It’s HOT in Here! (Creating Higher-Order Thinking Questions) Have you thought about the questions you ask in your classroom on a daily basis? Do the majority of those questions require recall or do they require students to THINK? This 2-hour session focuses on looking at the level of questions we ask regularly and learning how to turn questions into Higher Order Thinking (HOT) questions that cause our students to think through our content and apply it to the real world.

How to Make Being Observed Easier on Classroom Teachers Are you ever a bit nervous or anxious about an administrator coming to observe you teaching your class? This workshop takes each part of the Danielson framework and gives helpful hints as to how to transition classroom teachers from being a developing teacher to being an exemplary teacher.

On a Scale of 1-5, How Well Do You Manage Your Classroom? Every teacher wants to be in control of his/her classroom to make the best learning environment for each student!! This session will concentrate on the top 25 tips of how to make the classroom run more smoothly both for the teacher and for the students. The session will be interactive and teachers will leave with a list of areas in which they desire to improve.

Tools to Promote Active Learning in Every Classroom We all know that students learn more by DOING! This session focuses on research-based tools that help students retain what they are doing in your classroom. This workshop, based on the work by Silver and Strong, shares tools for generating ideas, for activating prior knowledge, for building students’ note taking skills, for improving students’ writing and vocabulary, for classroom questioning, for reviewing, for helping students present ideas, for checking understanding, and many more.

Crash Course on Cooperative Learning Do you need a crash course on cooperative learning strategies? This session will give teachers an overview of and a chance to practice using 18 Kagan-based cooperative learning strategies. This simple strategy can be used in any subject and as part of any lesson.

Teaching Argumentative, Informative, and Explanatory Writing in ALL Classrooms Students in all grade levels and classrooms should learn to be good writers. They should learn the difference between argument and persuasion and be able to do both well. They should also be able to explain a process to a reader and to inform an audience. This workshop focuses on the tools students need to be good writers in these areas. The workshop includes handouts to use with students when writing a rubric to assess their work.

Confused by Close Reading? Students are required to be close readers, but what does that really mean? This session breaks down the buzzword and allows teachers to help their students think and talk about texts at deeper levels. Close reading can be done at any grade level, even early elementary!

What Do Effective Teachers Do? All teachers want to be effective. There are many opinions of what makes an effective teacher. It is difficult to know what to do or what matters. This session will outline the tried and true strategies and the “secrets” to teaching effectively.

Formative Assessment: I Have Exit Slips! Research shows that using formative assessment results in greater achievement gains for students. We know this, but it is often difficult to get good results at the end of class. In this session, you will learn engaging ways to meaningfully assess students. Learn techniques and strategies to not only assess students, but also use results to improve your teaching the next day.

School-based Teams: Planning for Success Target the needs of the school based teams (SBDM, Principal, School Leaders) to build and maintain systems to support school improvement. • Broadened knowledge of council's role in school improvement • Analyze school data to determine needs • Establish a 30-60-90 day plan for overall improvement • Understand the spiral and progressive nature of school improvement

Effective Leaders, Effective Schools Individualized support for administrators to advance their professional practice and improve their ability to produce positive student outcomes. Focus on elements of a strategically planned leadership continuum to mentor and develop highly effective school leaders, through site-visits, ongoing professional development/professional growth and support.

No Attention = No Engagement = No Learning Instructional Rounds will help leaders and teachers develop a shared understanding of high quality instruction. Through this process educators and administrators develop a shared practice of observing, discussing, and analyzing teaching and learning. School teams visit real classrooms to learn the key principles of effective classroom practices, levels of engagement, effective questions and how they affect student achievement.

They will take on the student role to experience how students view, access and complete assignments. Access to a computer (or Chromebook) is necessary.

Let's Take Google for a Drive G Suite for Education is a set of awesome tools that have a lot to offer teachers and students in the classroom. We'll take Google Chrome, Drive, Docs, and Slides for a spin and learn the basics of how each works. Collaboration with G Suite tools is a breeze. Paperless classrooms are your future! Computers with Google Chrome (or Chromebooks) are required.

What's New with Google Sites? Join us as we explore what's new, what's gone, and how to make Google Sites work for you. Learn your way around the easy-to-use interface and start your new website, right away! This session can offer varying amounts of hands-on opportunity.

What are HyperDocs and How do I Create One? Do you want your students to take control of their own learning and be creative, collaborative, critical thinkers who can communicate what they've learned? HyperDocs are interactive documents that replace the worksheet and lecture method of instruction and help create a blended learning classroom. Come find out what it is all about and learn how to create your first one! Computer (or Chromebook) and Google account required.

Google in the Elementary Classroom: #YesTheyCan Are you an elementary teacher who wants to use Google apps with your students but you aren't sure where to start or even if they can do it? They can and this session will give you ideas on how to nurture use. Learn to implement Google Docs, Slides, and more into your lesson plans.

An Introduction to Google Forms and Sheets Which is more engaging? Collecting your own data or using the data in the textbook? Learn how to create a basic Google Form that can be sent to students or others to collect various types of data. Then access the Google Sheet, created by the Form, to manipulate and utilize your data in meaningful ways. Use formulas and basic functions, create charts, and more. We'll also share ideas on how you can use this in your classroom.

Google Forms to the Fullest In this session, participants will learn to utilize the full power of Google Forms/Sheets in the classroom. We will review the functionality and features of Google Forms including how to create a self-grading quiz. We will also explore Add-ons that can enhance the power of Google Forms and Sheets and share useful tips for classroom use.

Let's Hangout: Using Google Hangouts in the Classroom Take your class on a virtual field trip to a museum, into a classroom in another state, or around the world! You can have a discussion with an author, play a mystery game, or visit the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. The possibilities are endless! We'll talk about how to get started, how to find connections, and even participate in a live session if possible.

You're Never Too Young (or Too Old) to Start Coding Computer programming is a skill that is becoming more valuable by the minute! Bringing this subject into your classroom can seem daunting. Luckily, there are resources that make coding easy to learn and teach. Discover the tool that is right for you and your class, no matter what your grade or skill level.

Now THAT'S a Calendar! Google Calendar is one of the most popular tools to help educators get organized, stay on track, and communicate. Let’s explore the various features of Calendar for teacher productivity and stakeholder communication. Learners will gain experience with a wide variety of skills –from basic set-up and multiple calendar management, to embedding and sharing calendars. Calendar can also be used in conjunction with Google Classroom and Hangouts!

Smart Search: How Do You Google? The answers are out there; it's just a matter of finding them. Extend your Google search skills with hidden features and expert tips, then discover new ways to use search in your classroom.

Minecraft Mania Did you know that you can teach empathy, citizenship, and the 7 C's using Minecraft? Join us to learn more about using Minecraft as a learning tool to promote student learning and engagement. We will share resources, tips, and hints to pique your interest or expand your repertoire.

Once Upon a Time in the Land of Technology Once upon a time, there were many apps and websites available for teachers and students to use to tell stories of all kinds. Whether it’s the story of your student's learning, your cause, or creative writing, it’s not just about explaining information or ideas. It's about engagement, collaboration, and having students create their own knowledge.

If They Make It, They Will Learn A makerspace allows students to invent, build, make, fail, remake, be creative, and collaborate. Session participants will be engaged in a variety of hands-on, STEM-related activities and Ed Tech integration. Experience various student-driven robotics activities, work with electrical circuitry, and participate in a discussion of makerspaces in the classroom and library.

Using EdPuzzle in the Classroom Use the EdPuzzle online app to create video lessons with formative assessment built right in! This is an awesome tool for the flipped classroom, student centered learning, and can be differentiated for various students. You can also create assignments for Google Classroom from within EdPuzzle. We'll also touch on creating a YouTube channel for your class and how to block advertisements in YouTube.

Spark Creativity with Adobe Spark Apps Adobe Spark allows you to communicate your message using three free apps. Create social graphics using Spark Post. Pick a picture, add some text and design filters and you're ready to share your message with the world! Web stories are created with Spark Page, where you can create a beautiful, magazine-style story that will impress your readers. Animated videos are created with Spark Video, which allows even the youngest students to add pictures, voice recordings, and select from built-in soundtracks and motion.

Formative Assessment Tools We'll share with you some interesting digital tools that can be used to formatively assess your students. These tools can be intermixed with what you are already doing to add variety to your classroom. Some of the tools we'll discuss and demonstrate will be Kahoot!, Socrative, Plickers, Formative, and more.

Google My Maps and Expeditions in the Classroom We've all used Google Maps on our phones to find a location or get directions, but what about My Maps? Learn how Google My Maps can be used in the classroom across the curriculum and how Google Cardboard can transform student learning and really bring geography to life!
