The Devil’s Fireside

Warming at

Mark 14:66-7266 Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came. 67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Mark 14:66-7268 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out on the porch, and a rooster crowed.

Mark 14:66-7269 And the servant girl saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by, “This is one of them.” 70 But he denied it again.And a little later those who stood by said to Peter again, “Surely you are one of them; for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it.”

Mark 14:66-7271 Then he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this Man of whom you speak!”

Mark 14:66-7272 A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And when he thought about it, he wept.

Matthew 26:33-3533 Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”34 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

Matthew 26:33-3535 Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”And so said all the disciples.

“It was not Pilate, nor any of the Sanhedrin, nor a mob of soldiers, but a single waiting-maid, who frightened the self-confident apostle into denying his Master.” ~ Alfred Plummer

Matthew 26:57,5857 And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end.

1Peter 2:19-2219 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully.

1Peter 2:19-2220 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

1Peter 2:19-2221 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: 22 “Who committed no sin,Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;

1Peter 1:10-1210 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,

1Peter 1:10-1211 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

1Peter 1:10-1212 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.
