The three-year Industrial Design degree Course for undergraduates was set up in San Marino in 2005 and runs in conjunction with the affiliated course at Venice University’s Iuav. The Industrial Design degree is awarded jointly by the two Universities and is a legally recognised qualification in both San Marino and the rest of Europe.From 2012 it’s on the graduate programme.

COURSE AIMS The course aims to train young designers in the necessary skills to work at all levels of the design process in industrial design, be it in the world of product design or graphics and visual communication. This means that students work on creating designs for industrial production, studying the various technical applications necessary to create designs, taking account of the look, technological features, and functionality of designs, as well as considering economical and environmental factors.

LABORATORY EQUIPMENT
At university students can do practical workshops to learn the various tools ofthe trade including:
— computers and IT— photography— model making— video making— silk-screen printing— ceramics
The workshops allowstudents to carry out both experimental design work of their own and to learn thehow to use the equipment with various different techniques being taught inspecially designed teaching seminars.

As part of the teaching during the degree course students arealso able to take part in extra curricula activities known as the San Marino Design Workshops.These intensive workshops allow students the chancefor a genuine hands-on design experience. With a whole week’sfull-immersion to concentrate on a given topic, working underthe guidance of established designers, using the materials or
techniques made available by thecompany or designers they are working with, who are invited totake part each year.

The design departmenthosts a series of lectureswith talks on designheld by product andgraphic designers, aswell as ones given bylocal manufacturers, andprofessionals working inthe fields of illustration,advertising, photography, and even journalism. Different experiences, all with one common aim: getting a dialogue goingbetween the industrial and professional trades.So far talks have been given by a number
