Testimonial / Reference for Diana Lopez-Cerquera
Diana worked during an intensive Winter term when FPA was in the process of completing several Design and Master Planning projects, and international Marketing initiatives simultaneously. Working as part of a large team for a healthcare facility in Israel, Diana developed patient room drawings, three-dimensional modeling, presentation material, and physical model making. Her Master Planning work (three in total) included overall site planning and design, three-dimensional supporting graphics, and final report assembly.
Diana has proven herself to be a reliable and highly effective team member on all the projects she was involved in. She demonstrated strong proficiency in both software utilization and also her intellectual understanding of the various tasks at hand. FPA was particularly impressed with her ability to shift assignments easily and work independently on multiple projects with very little supervision.
Additionally, her overall interest and willingness to deliver within tight timelines gave senior members a high level of confidence in her ability to meet the assignment requirements – a rare quality among students with little previous architectural work experience.
We were reluctant to see her leave, and welcome her back to our team should she desire. We look forward to watching her thrive in her goals to be an architect and professional.

a culture hub for the past, present and future
collaboration with: haley zhou
the museo de fora romana is a design investigation for the area of the via dei fiori imperiali. The site, in its totality and complexity, is an area that offers a challenging design question due to its proximity to the archeological excavations, important monuments and a residential neighborhood. Therefore, the museum must become an infrastructure that connects the past of ancient rome and a contemporary city. Our proposal is to use the existing roman forum and residential fabric to develop the site strategy, and create a building that will become a new social hub that is able to attract both tourists and residents.

{2}frozen LANDSCAPES_sisimiut
Located in central-Greenland, Sisimiut is the second largest growing city of the country, whose main economy is fishing, both commercial and local. Yet the current city development isolates the industry from the public community, creating a distant relationship between public and working programs.
Project proposes to merge the working and the public spaces to create a community hub that privileges the working and public relationships, giving priority to the improvement of local fishing economy. located close to the current fishing production facilities, it is designed as an extension of the city’s existing urban span. The Urban extension is driven by a looping process which involves biogas production, fertilizer production, coastal fishing processing and public utilization. Working programs including coastal fishing processing facilities, biogas tanks and research center is placed directly next to public programs such as the market, indoor community garden and public square/ deck. The peninsula becomes a converging point for the fishing industry and the public.

Harbors have long been constructed as the economic backbone of a city. However with the recent times of environmental and economic instability, the relationship between the water and city is an on-going evolution. Therefore, it is the perfect time to re-establish the harbor as the heart and future of Pesaro.
The new harbor will attract visitors with Pesaro’s rich history in theatre, opera, cinema and the crafts, while allowing locals to gain access to wellness and educational facilities. Spaces will be used to provide entertainment to Pesaro’s citizens, as well as an attraction for tourism.
Most importantly it will create a model for a more sustainable local economy that will become the new symbol for Pesaro and port cities around the world.

Establishment of a pedestrian-friendly circulation route around the site and connects to The existing bicipolitana project.
The loop provides access to all programmed areas of the project and key outdoor spaces, it acts as a roof for the Wellness Centre, a key in promoting the physical health of the citizens of Pesaro.
Key programmed spaces include two theatres for traditional performances able to accommodate varying venues, as well as a blackbox theatre flexible for experimental performance.
Educational facilities gives great access to sunlight and views along with spaces that promote the continuing development of the local economy.
Outdoor Performance areas allow for planned and spontaneous events, from the annual Pesaro International Film Festival of New Cinema to a weekend local farmers market.

{4}le dégagé_HOTEL
Le Dégagé hotel is a 50-room hotel with a lobby bar, restaurant / bar, and spa facility. Located at an old parking lot in historic Galt, attention was paid to maintain the scale of the neighboring buildings, while bringing new life, greenery and vigor to a tired community. Inspired by the existing cinema, the hotel attempts to convey a narrative through its interior spaces that lead to a magnificent view of the old historic post office and Grand River.

{5}straw_HOUSE
A dwelling located at the backyard of a house is made from pre-fabricated materials that can be assembled within 30 days. The design of the dwelling revolves around various environmental strategies that are implemented, such as a water wall and strawbale construction. These strategies allow the dwelling to create an unique space for its occupants by taking advantage of the site views of the Grand River and the thickness of the strawbale walls provide seating and storage spaces; a way to make the space seem larger and open. Lastly, the water wall provides a distinct light feature for the space.

{6}jiahui international_HOSPITAL
The JiaHui International Hospital is a patient-centered healthcare facility in Shanghai, China. The project is driven by the concept of a ‘hospital in a park’, as it is proven that access to nature heals more effectively. This ‘healing garden’ concept will be combined with a rich and textured facade that will embody the notion of a healthcare ecosystem. An idea derived from the parks and plazas in Shanghai, which have been the community centers for all generations. Therefore, the project aspires to see garden spaces dedicated to activities such as tai-chi, dance, and leisure exercise, which promote the health and wellness for which China is so well known.

Working with CS&P Architects, 101 Erskine is the development of a 32-storey condominium tower in Uptown Toronto. A detailed digital model was created to support visual renders at Tridel client presentations for the early stages of the design development. The tower will achieve LEED certification through the use of an innovative glass facade and solar panels. This new condominium will be part of the future revitalization of the yonge + eglinton area.

{9}sweeney’s_CHAIR
Wood on its own is mundane. Wood when transformed becomes extraordinary. To touch and to feel. To shape and to form. Manipulation of a material allows for the creation of the sculptural form to emerge. The qualities of wood coming to life through its transformation, and when combined with other materials. The materials being in the limelight. The pleat, the fold and the module are new ways to interpret the material to create basic forms that are simple, yet elegant. A chair becomes a piece of furniture where form and structure become one, all the elements of construction are exposed and composed to create a beautifully flowing sculptural form. Expanding from a basic unit that when it multiplies a pattern has grown to create forms that appear amazingly complex. Each module participating in the metamorphosis of the chair by pirouetting into different positions and shapes that are unique to each individual. Fitting one or two bodies; becoming one with the chair. A piece of art.
