HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Happy Birthday to the following students who are celebrating

their birthday this week. We hope you have a lovely day.

BAND TOGETHER DAY

On Thursday the 12th of June we are asking students to dress in purple (or a touch of purple) and bring in a gold coin donation for National Buddy Day. The proceeds will go to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation. The foundations goal is to help reduce bullying in primary school, through education and much more.. On the day we're challenging buddy grades to join forces, literally — with a ribbon, velcro band or a hair scrunchie and take a photo of their most creative band. We appreciate all of your support.

Regards Adrian Patane and the JSC

DOLPHIN RESEARCH PEER TEACHING ACTIVITY

Last week our five ambassadors completed their peer teaching task with our five Year 1 classes. They did a great job and I’m sure their message of looking after the marine environment will be remembered. Below is their report.

Last term all the Dolphin Research Ambassadors went to Mentone Primary School to learn about peer teaching and to get to know more about the environment. After some training we got to teach the Year 1’s at Mentone. When we came back to school we spent some of our lunch times practising to teach the Year 1’s at our school. Last week, on the 21st and 22nd May, we went into all the Year 1 classes to teach them. They all enjoyed it a lot.

Thank you to Mr Clohesy, Mrs Morgan and the other Year 1 teachers for making this happen.

Miah F, Chelsea M, Katelyn G, Hunter C & Fletcher L.

and confidence. We had an outstanding achievement with 16 students progressing through to the next

round at the Cornish Campus next Wednesday 4th June. Well done to all students who participated on

the day. A special thanks must go to Susan Maxwell, Claire and Tim Newman, Nicole Tregellis and

Visiting Artist Brett Cardwell

Our Year 2, 5 and 6 students have had the famous cartoonist Brett Cardwell visit. He has inspired

children to draw various cartoon characters’ faces, hands and bodies. We have touched on the

Japanese influence of Manga and turned these cartoons into super heroes. Other classes have

drawn wonderful cartoon animals, aliens and spacemen.

Take a look at the photos featuring some of our creative drawings. Most handouts have gone home to

help children to keep exploring expressive faces at home. Brett believes the most important thing

about drawing cartoons are the faces. Some children have already started to draw cartoons in their

own time at home. Brett encourages all students to follow their dreams and practise makes perfect.

For all those students wishing to enhance their skills in drawing cartoons please keep looking in our

school newsletter for information on Brett’s workshops at Dromkeen during the school holidays.

He’d love to see you there. You can also visit his website at www.cartoonworkshop.com.au.
