20 November 2012 Principal’s Message The school has received notification via a parent that the NSW Ministry of Health has been notifying families of a measles epidemic within our local area. Measles is highly contagious. Symptoms may include high fevers, tiredness, coughs, a runny nose and sore eyes prior to the appearance of a red rash. The key step that parents need to take to protect their family is to ensure that everyone born after 1965 has had two doses of MMR vaccine. This can be easily checked by contacting your GP or calling ACIR on 1800 653 809. Measles vaccine is free from your doctor. Further information can be obtained from www.health.nsw.gov.au/ factsheets/infectious/measles.html. Thank you to Ms Batros for organising the election process for next year’s school leaders. All candidates presented a speech to the school last Wednesday and this was followed by all children lodging their vote through a ballot sheet. The votes will be counted by Ms Batros and a representative from the Glenfield P&C Association on Friday. The school captains for 2013 will be announced at the Celebration of Learning Assembly on Monday 10 December. I would like to remind all parents that footage from assembly items or in fact any school activity cannot be posted on a social media site such as YouTube. If you are filming or photographing an event, the focus can only be on your own child due to privacy and child protection issues. Principal’s Message

The school has received notification via a parent that the NSW Ministry of Health has been notifying families of a measles epidemic within our local area.

Further information can be obtained from www.health.nsw.gov.au/factsheets/infectious/measles.html.

If you have not returned the advice slip regarding your child/children returning to our school next year, another copy is available at the bottom of page 3. We need to know the names of students returning to Glenfield to place them on a class list for 2013.

Last night a number of our students were presented with awards for their participation and sporting achievements at the Fields PSSA presentation night. These students were all mentioned in previous newsletters as each district and zone event took place. Special recognition should be made to C. Nyantakyi and N. Ferrer (pictured below) who were the athletics age champions in each of their divisions. Glenfileld also won the prestigious small school’s shield for athletics. Our girls senior softball and our junior girls tee ball teams were the 2012 premiers.

Year 6 Farewell The Year 6 Farewell will be held at the Ingleburn RSL on Tuesday 11 December starting at 5.45pm. Invitations and relevant information have been sent home. Meal options need to be returned to Miss Batros by this Friday 23 November whilst money and RSVP’s need to be returned to the office by the same date. Any Year 6 student who was not at Glenfield PS in kindergarten when the school photos were taken needs to bring a school kindergarten photo ASAP and give it to Miss Couloumbis for scanning. These photos will be returned. Year 5 students are invited to the disco part of the Year 6 Farewell. The disco commences at approximately 7.45pm. Permission notes are due to Miss Batros this Friday 23 November. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Miss Batros.

MUSICAL PERFORMANCES Last week we were fortunate to hear some of our musical students perform. Rebecca, from 2/3P, performed two tunes on the piano on two separate occasions. She was very eager to perform for the parents of our new Kindergarten students for 2013 and then last Friday, she played for all of the students and teachers at our assembly. Rebecca did a magnificent job, playing confidently and beautifully. She learns keyboard each Wednesday during lunch time with the Music Bus.

Anabelle and Anastazia also performed magnificently at our assembly last week. They confidently played ‘Little Brown Jug’ on their clarinets and are busy practising for our Carols by Torchlight, which is fast approaching. Both girls are in our school band and have lessons each Tuesday.
