3 WAY CONFERENCES 2015 - PARENT FEEDBACK SURVEY
Our 3 Way Conferences are being held today. It has been wonderful seeing the preparation our students have been making and also the thoughtful work of our teachers in getting ready for the conferences.
Last year was the first time we implemented this style of conference. From feedback gained in last year’s survey we are endeavouring to improve the process this year by ensuring that the conferences are held in the stu-dent's classroom, that time is being set aside from classroom instruction during the day to enable appropriate focus and increasing the level of teacher feedback during the conference. We have also provided a prior opportunity for parents to organise a question they may have or area for discussion.
We would appreciate some more feedback this year. This will be used to continue to improve how the 3 Way Conferences are implemented at our school in the future.

PTA TRIVIA NIGHT A HUGE SUCCESS What a terrific night we had last Saturday at our PTA Trivia Night. A grand total of $16,500 was raised. This is an excellent result and these funds will be used towards the installation of air conditioning in the BER (Senior School) classrooms. This would then complete the Cooling Solutions pro-ject across our school. I will keep you updated about the project in our future newsletters. Many thanks to all of our PTA Team for helping to organise the event. A very successful element was the silent auction items such as hampers and vouchers. These were organised by the class reps from each grade!

Thank you to all those that assisted with the set-up, pack up, providing the questions, working behind the bar, picking up the bar order and ice, DJing, providing the music and everything else that contributed to the success of the night. A special thank you to those that donated the use of a holiday property or football jumper at our loud auction as well. Finally a huge thankyou to Alex St Claire who coordinated the whole event and led the team so effectively. Well
done Alex and well done Kew Primary School!
PAYMENT COLLECTION PROCESS To assist us in processing payments made to the school, we ask that when any money is being sent in, that it is placed in a sealed envelope with the amount, name of child, child’s class and reason for payment listed on the out-side of the envelope. We are changing how this is managed within our school so that these payments are now placed directly into a wallet that is sent to the office at 9am. This replaces the system of teachers checking this and adding the total to a recording sheet. Cheques must also have the details of the students and reason for payment attached to them. We sometimes find it hard to work out what payments are for and who they are from when we don’t have this information, especially when the name on the cheque is different to the surname of the student.
Your assistance with this will be most appreciated by our very busy office team.
FOOTSTEPS DANCE CONCERT Make sure you keep the evening of Thursday 3rd September free. On this night we will hold our whole school dance concerts at Xavier College Performing Arts Centre. Our school is too large for this venue so there will be two concerts that night. Students will only be participating at one of these. More information will be sent home shortly.
PREP ENROLMENTS 2016
I am pleased to say that we have had strong interest in our Prep enrolment for next year. Boroondara schools
confirm these Prep enrolments at their school by the end of August. As such we are now in the final stages of
organising our Prep numbers for next year. This is a final call for any existing families with children starting school
next year to submit an enrolment form now.
We will email out enrolment confirmation later in August. This will also include information about our Prep
Transition Program than will commence in Term 4. There will also be a notice board about this program outside
the school entry gates.
Our first Prep 2016 Information evening will be held on Thursday 10th September at 7pm in the Junior School Hall.
PARENT OPINION SURVEY
This is a final reminder for our parents that were randomly selected to complete the annual parent opinion survey
that it needs to be sent back to the school by tomorrow – Friday 31st July.
Be Worthy!

Message from the Assistant Principal
As I was driving to school today, listening to the radio, the announcer was discussing what types of employment
our school kids will get in the future and what their skill base would need to be. He then went on to announce that
children who enter Prep next year will more than likely live beyond the end of this century and he challenged his
listeners to ring in and comment on what they believed their jobs would be. I must admit it took me back a bit be-
cause while I am in the field of education how often do I think beyond this century - not often. And so I got think-
ing about what our education system needs to offer our students so that they will be gainfully employed and have
a sense of self-worth.
Here are my thoughts, learning has evolved far beyond the “memorize and regurgitate model” of years gone by. In
other words the rote learning model which many of you would have experienced during your primary, and particu-
larly, in the secondary years of your education. I know I certainly did in mine. Now we as educators teach students
to think and be discerning users of the information available on various websites. In the 21st century, students
need to be creative thinkers, resourceful, and curious learners who can work collaboratively as part of a team. Per-
sonal and inter-personal skills will be paramount for future employment prospects.
Today, you will be able to experience this learning, through the very eyes of your child, in the 3-way conference
format. Here you will experience their learning goals, WALT’s - what we are learning today and your child’s self-
assessment, particularly in the areas for improvement. Take this moment to see your child explain their learning
and where they need to take it to next, all the time being guided and explicitly taught by their teachers.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our teachers for all their hard work, and guidance they have giv-
en to their students. Teachers do worry about their students’ progress and will consult with one another for new
ideas as well as discussing their learning concerns with James and myself. They do want the very best outcomes
for all their students and these conferences are a fantastic way for you as parents to be witness to this new educa-
tional world.
