Carolers of Christmas Past – Based out of Winston Salem, North Carolina, the Carolers of Christmas Past is an acapella quartet dressed in authentic Victorian costumes with an extensive repertoire of both traditional and holiday carols. Since 2001, their performances have included the North Carolina Governor’s Mansion, the White House in Washington, D.C., and an annual fixture at Dickens of a Christmas. December 1st starting at 7:00pm

Cultural Arts for Excellence Steel Drums – Cultural Arts for Excellence is an after-school arts enrichment program sponsored by Kingdom Life Ministries. The focus of the program is mentoring middle school students, tutoring and the development of a whole success capable person through the study of arts and music. The steel drum band is central to this mission and has performed widely in the Roanoke Valley through appearances at Hollins University and the Jefferson Center. On a national level they have earned Silver Medal honors at the Virginia Beach Panfest Competition.December 15th at 6:30pm on the Community Stage

Dickens Street Acting Project/William Fleming Theater – Dickens Street Acting Project has been at Dickens of a Christmas for 22 years! Over 30 talented students from William Fleming High School participate in this community-wide effort, directed by Mrs. Lindsay Jackson. Dressed in period costumes portraying characters from “A Christmas Carol,” the students will use their creative and acting skills to bring Dickens’ characters to life. December 1st, 8th, and 15th starting at 6:00pm

Evidence Unseen – Evidence Unseen is more than just a band, but a family bonded together by a passion for music beyond measure. The idea behind the band name “Evidence Unseen” evolved from Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Their style of music consists of a broad genre of rock, as well as some contemporary Christian. Floyd Ward School of Dance – Floyd Ward School of Dance is celebrating its 90th year. The school offers dance classes to children ranging from ages 3-18 in ballet, clogging, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, liturgical, lyrical, modern, pointe, and tap. The school also is home to the Floyd Ward Dance ensembles which compete both regionally and nationally. Hidden Valley High School Vocal Ensemble – The Hidden Valley High School Vocal Ensemble was formed in 2017. This after school club consists of 12 students ranging from 10th – 12th grade. Kate Guntermann, Sensoriel: Fire Performer – Kate has been performing with fire since 2001 and has appeared at festivals, nightclubs, and private events across the eastern United States. DICKENS HIGHLIGHTSTHE CITY OF ROANOKE CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTINGFriday, December 1st, beginning at 5:30pmSponsored by Downtown Roanoke Inc., City of Roanoke, and the City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department, the tree lighting will be held on December 1st at Wells Fargo Plaza located on Salem Avenue. The ceremony will begin with a special performance by Roanoke Symphony Orchestra at 5:30pm. WSLS10’s countdown to the tree lighting will begin at 5:45pm. with the actual lighting at 6:20pm.

CITY OF ROANOKE CHRISTMAS PARADE **Saturday, December 9th at 6:00pm******This year’s City of Roanoke Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday as a one-year-only change due to Franklin Rd Bridge construction and detour route along Jefferson St.

Costumed characters, strolling carolers, marching bands, jugglers, and numerous community groups all highlighting various holiday traditions are just a few of the unique things you will see filling up the streets as this parade strolls through downtown. The parade route begins at the corner of Elm Avenue and Jefferson Street (Elmwood Park) and continues north on Jefferson Street to Campbell Avenue, then east on Campbell to Market Square.

RVSPCA’S PET COSTUME CONTEST Friday, December 15th at 6:30pmThe holidays aren’t just for humans! Dress your pet(s) in holiday outfits and come join the fun and laughter at the annual RVSPCA Pet Costume Contest. The fun, free contest is at Wells Fargo Plaza on Salem Avenue.
