Reflection Quote: “Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in dan-ger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.” —Saint Patrick of Ireland

Prelude Musicians

Welcome and Announcements Rev. Brian Gault Assistant Pastor of Shepherding and Discipleship

* Call to Worship Psalm 139:5-12 Rev. Zack Owens Assistant Pastor of Children and Families

“You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.”

Prayer of Invocation and Confession of Sin Rev. Zack Owens

* Song of Preparation “Let It Rise”

Let the glory of the Lord rise among us, Let the glory of the Lord rise among us Let the praises of the King rise among us -- Let it rise

Let the songs of the Lord rise among us, Let the songs of the Lord rise among us Let the joy of the King, rise among us -- Let it rise. Ohh, ohh, ohh, Let it rise

* Song of Praise “Praises” (Be Lifted Up)

I sing Praises to Your Name The name that's so much, higher than all names

All honour to Your name All honour to Your name The name that's so much greater than all names

Chorus: Be lifted up Be lifted up higher Be lifted up, be lifted higher

Bridge: Your name is life Your name is Hope inside me, Hope inside Your name is love A love that always finds me, Always finds me (Chorus)

Sermon Text Psalm 125

Sermon Title “Keep Your Eye on the Mountain”

* Hymn of Faith “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing: For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and

pow’r are great, and, armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal.

Page 3: Did we in our own strength confide, our striving …...2020/07/19  · His rage we can endure, for lo! his doom is sure; One little word shall fell him. That Word above all earthly

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing; Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing; Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabaoth,

His Name, from age to age the same, And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us; The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;

His rage we can endure, for lo! his doom is sure; One little word shall fell him.

That Word above all earthly pow’rs, no thanks to them, abideth; The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;

The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still; His kingdom is forever.

* Worship in Giving and Benediction Rev. Brian Gault

*Please Stand. (Redeemer Church, PCA, CCLI #257987)

Describe a long journey that you’ve undertaken. Was it worth it? What did you learn about yourself? How does that journey connect to the journey of the Christian Life?

Why are we inclined to forget that we’re on a journey and make this place our home? What tools do you use to remind yourself that you’re on a pilgrimage?

Talk about a time where you experienced the dark shadow of injustice and/or oppression in your life. What did you most want in that time, and how is that found in the Gospel? Talk about the battle of “trusting in the Lord” (v.1) versus “turning aside to your crooked ways” (v.5) in your life. What helps you to daily turn from “turning aside” to “trusting in the Lord”?

Describe a time or place where you felt deeply safe. In the Christian life, what other things do you find yourself looking to for safety and security? (Job, home, looks, friendship, marriage, children, performance, possessions, investments.)

Evaluation of Phase 4 Set for Sept 14

Following the reopening of schools in our community (kindergarten through 12th grade) in the first half of August, the Session will evaluate the available data to consider moving to Phase 4 of our plan, which includes groups of 20 or more, such as Sunday School and Growth Groups. The earliest we would return to these Auxiliary Large Group Ministries would be Sept 27. Read more at:
