DID YOU KNOW…..Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was only 5 foot 1 inch tall? At the age of 13 he fractured his right thigh bone and at 14 the left. The breaks never healed properly!

WHO IS TOULOUSE-LAUTREC?French painter who portrayed life in the cafes and music halls of Montmartre (1864-1901). His works were colorful and theatrical and he is known as on of the greatest painters of the post-impressionist period.

Leonardo da Vinci was a genius of the renaissance period. His skills were legendary - painter, architect, engineer, mathematician and philosopher but he is perhaps best known for his paintings especially those of the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper and The Madonna (Virgin) of the Rocks. His inventions included machine guns, an armored tank, cluster bombs, a submarine, the first mechanical calculator and solar power!

WHO IS GEORGIA O’ KEEFE?Georgia O’ Keefe is known for her painting with enlarged flowers and her depictions of New York buildings which have been seen as the most compelling paintings of the modern day city. She is also very well known for her southwestern art of the landscapes, buildings, and cultural objects of the American Southwest.

WHO IS ALEXANDER CALDER? Alexander Calder was an American sculptor and artist most famous for inventing mobile sculptures. In addition to mobile and stable sculpture, Alexander Calder also created paintings, lithographs, toys, tapestry, jewelry and household objects, and even wire circuses!

DID YOU KNOW…..Pablo Picasso was considered a suspect in the theft of Mona Lisa in 1911.  He was arrested and questioned after his friend Guillaume Apollinaire pointed a finger at Picasso.  Both were later cleared and released.

WHO IS PABLO PICASSO?Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer. He was one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century and was widely known for co-founding the cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that helped develop and explore.

DID YOU KNOW…..That Seurat sketched over 200 sketches before painting The Sunday Afternoon on the Island of Grande Jatte. It took two years to paint the painting, it’s size was 6 foot by 10 foot long, and was made up by over a million colorful dots.

WHO IS Georges Seurat?Georges Seurat was a French Post- Impressionist Painter and a draftsman. He is noted for his innovative use of drawing media and for devising a technique of painting known as pointillism. Pointillism are tiny dots of paint that are blended together in the viewers eyes to make different colors.

WHO IS GeJAN VAN EYCK?Jan Van Eyck was a Flemish painter who most said invented the technique of oil painting, but it’s more likely he perfected it. He painted thin glazes over heavy colors to create a rich luster that lasted for more than 500 years. Van Eyck was also among the first to paint realistic pictures of people in their homes.

WHO IS DIEGO VELASQUEZ?Diego Velasquez was a Spanish, Baroque artist who is playing a trick in this painting of the young princess. Velasquez not only painted himself into the picture as the artist on the left, he also painted the king and queen outside of the picture by using the mirrors reflection in the back. It is as almost if you are the king and queen!
