Playing it Forward in RichmondIn Richmond, a new community facility is
under construction that local residents are
already looking forward to. The Minoru Centre
for Active Living, in Minoru Park in the heart of
the City, includes an aquatics and fi tness
centre, seniors services and facilities that
support the park’s outdoor sports spaces.
In total, $50 million of gaming funds will
go toward the project over a 10-year period,
including $5 million in 2017. The 110,000 square
foot facility won’t just replace the existing
aquatic centre nearby, it will be a “Centre of
Excellence” for active living for individuals of
all ages, supporting mental, physical and social
wellness for residents of all interests and abilities.
Each year, local governments in B.C. that host a
gaming facility receive a 10 percent share of the
net revenue those facilities generate. Last year,
32 Host Local Governments across B.C. received
$102.1 million to fund local projects and initiatives.
