Since 1959 Lovick Engineering has been providing precision
balancing for diesel and petrol engines, including high horsepower
(HHP) diesels and high performance petrol engines. We are proud
to boast the most sophisticated crankshaft balancing department
in Australia.
Lovicks understand better than most the importance of ensuring all
engines, especially HHP diesel engines used in mining, power
generation, marine, construction, locomotive and industrial industries,
operate without high frequency vibration. This type of vibration is
generally not detectable without the use of precise vibration analysis
equipment. For this reason our balancing department is built
around very specialised machinery not found in any other
engine reconditioning workshop in Australia. We have the latest
computerised technology that allows us to balance crankshafts
and components to the most stringent tolerances, often exceeding
OEM specifications. For this service, we set the standard.
We are able to balance all sizes and configurations of engines
including inline 4 and 6 cylinder crankshafts V6, V8, V12, V16
and V20 crankshafts including CAT3408 and CAT3508 which
require specific tooling and bobweights to enable balancing.
Crankshafts and industrial shafts up to 6m in length and weighing
up to 3,000kg can be easily accommodated by our balancing
department. Every balancing job includes a detailed report
itemising initial and final tolerances.
conrods
Conrods (connecting rods) of all sizes, makes and models can be
expertly inspected, tested, repaired and machined by our conrod
department. As with all Lovick Engineering departments, this area
utilises the very latest tooling, equipment and expertise to carry
out intricate OEM specific conrod work.
disassembly and chemical cleaning
Our disassembly and chemical cleaning department ensures that
all components and ancillary engine parts are free from oil, carbon,
paint and all other foreign materials and liquids to enable stringent
inspection.
Upon the completion of reconditioning, all components are
thoroughly cleaned once again in order to achieve contaminant
free assembly, installation and/or dispatch.

specialised welding and metal spraying
submerged Arc Welding
This process provides an economical repair and rebuilding procedure
for severely damaged rotating components such as crankshafts
and industrial shafts. It is a ‘full fusion’ process that restores the
damaged area back to original size, structure and tolerance.
Arc spray
This process provides an economical repair for the re-establishment
of worn or below tolerance components such as cylinder top
decks, bores, mounting and mating faces on engine components
as well as industrial components including castings and housings.
We have the only robot in Australia specifically tooled and
programmed to fully restore cylinder top decks back to new deck
height specifications. This fully computerised robot can be
programmed to undertake thousands of different welding functions.
Powder Flame spray
This process provides a fusion bond of the parent and weld
materials. Predominantly used on castings where high loading
and wear resistance is required.
thermal cold spray
A process which lends itself to repairing worn areas of many
components where low temperature is required to eliminate
possible component distortion. This is a quick and convenient
process allowing fast turnaround of components.
tig and Mig
Our technically trained welders and boiler makers are able to
precisely and carefully weld various alloys and many different
types of components using these welding processes.
