Digipak Analysis

Page 2: Digipak and Poster Research

The black, white and red colours matches the conventions of the rock genre. The digipakfor The Red Hot Chilli Peppers is conventionally laid out. I like the use of the band’s individual photos down the left side of the inside of the front cover. I also like the unconventional cut within the front of the digipak, I think it makes it stand out. I like the use of the logo on the CD, I think it looks aesthetically pleasing and draws the audience’s eye to the CD; the matching colour of the font ties it all together.

The My Chemical Romance digipak is unconventionally laid out. The CD is positioned in the center which draws the audience’s eye to it. The use of black and white imagery on the left and right make the red splatter on the CD stand out. The colours red, white and black connote the rock music genre of which the band are from. The two white spines make me believe that a DVD feature or lyric book is able to be slotted inside the case. I like the use of images from the band’s other albums.

The Evanescence digipak is laid out unconventially. The digipak is blue which suggests depression or masculinity. The double photo spread onto two parts of the digipak makes it stand out; but also feels like the designer had too much space. The constant photos of the band, sells the band as a brand; especially Amy Lee (the lead singer). The CD stands out due to the fact it is black on a blue background. The font is white and simplistic which makes it blend in to the digipak.

Katy Perry’s digipak is pink which connotes femininity. The photos of the singer sells her as a brand. I like the use of coloured font for the tracklisting as it makes it stand out. I like the use of imagery on the CD’s, I think it makes it stand out but also fits the theme of the digipak and the infamous video Californian Girls. I think this is a good use of space and is something that I would like to use on the own digipak.

This is Perry’s matching poster for the Digipak. It uses the same image on the front of the digipak to keep the theme running and to make the audience feel like they’re seeing it everywhere. The title ‘Teenage Dream’ is in the same colour and style is the CD art which ties the promotional poster and gthe digipaktogether. The use of scent on the poster makes the poster stand out from conventional other posters. I also like the use of singles on the bottom of the poster; this is so that the audience will buy the album as it features these songs that they may have previously heard on the radio etc.

Britney Spears’ digipak is unconventionally laid out. The CD is placed in the center which draws the audience to the center of the the digipak. The use of gold, white and black fit the genre of music that Spear’s sings in, but also shows the sophistication of the album and perhaps targets an older audience of Spear’s fans. The simplistic digipakmakes the photos really stand out. The use of photos of the artist sells her as a brand.

This is the matching poster for the previous digipak. It uses the same image inside the digipak which ties the two together. I like the fact that it is a different image for the front of the digipak – it makes it seem not repetitive and makes them seem like separate things. This is so that Britney fans will need to own or see both to make it part of their collection. The use of two photos of the artist sells Spears as a brand.

This is a separate album for My Chemical Romance than shown before.

The poster shows the album cover so that the audience tie the two together, but also shows the band members, selling them as a brand. I like the use of colour on the images and the monochrome background, as it makes it stand out.
