Digipak comparative After my first Digipak draft in Photoshop, there are many similarities and differences between it and the original album by Paloma Faith. As I was re-creating the album, I obviously looked at it for inspiration to see what the artist was trying to convey through the Digipak. Firstly, the images I used are very different from the original. I chose an outdoor theme as I know this is typical for the indie genre. However I added my own twist on it by adding props to the plants to make it new and different, as this is what the indie genre is about. But the original used an indoor theme with more elaborate outfits. I also chose a close up shot of the artist instead of a mid shot as I liked the photo and looked better on the front cover.

Digipak comparative

After my first Digipak draft in Photoshop, there are many similarities and differences between it and the original album by Paloma Faith. As I was re-creating the album, I obviously looked at it for

inspiration to see what the artist was trying to convey through the Digipak.

Firstly, the images I used are very different from the original. I chose an outdoor theme as I know this is typical for the indie genre. However I added my own twist on it by adding props to the plants to make it new and different, as this is what the indie genre is about. But the original used an indoor theme with more elaborate outfits. I also chose a close up shot of the artist instead of a mid shot as I

liked the photo and looked better on the front cover.

Secondly, I used photos throughout the Digipak whereas on the original the artist has used artwork that’s been drawn to make it a bit unusual and different. I decided to do this because I had an idea of the photos I wanted already and how I could make them work. I also knew I could edit them to make

them look professional.

The original has included lots of bright tropical colours to link with the parrots on the front cover. However i have decided to go with more subtle colours with a wash out effect as I wanted my Digipak to look old and retro. I also knew what the storyline behind my album was going to be,

therefore did everything to try and fit with that.

I kept the typical conventions of the Digipak similar to the original, with the track list, record labels, barcode and CD number of the spine. This was essential to make it look professional as all Digipak

will have these, no matter how different they are. As the artist was the same in the original and mine, I have made them quite similar as they have the same record companies and overall

institutional details.

Overall I think I have kept the main features the same in order for it to look like a real Digipak, yet had my own twist on it to fit in with the indie genre and also to fit with my chosen storyline behind

it.
