Digital Arts Overview

This unit of study introduces students to a diverse range of art practices that utilise new digital media technologies including: interactive art works, digital

media installations, net art and art and science projects.

Students will learn about the aesthetic and technical dimensions of new digital technologies and will develop the critical and analytical tools with which to discuss and evaluate digital art

works.

Digital Arts - course delivery

• Lectures - 10.00-12.00 ThursdaysQuadrangle Building, History Room S223

• Lectures will include demonstrations of artists’ work as well as theoretical discussions about digital art

• Lecture slides will be available from the ARIN 2630 website

• Tutorials (starting in week 2)

• Tutorials will include discussion and activities including online discussions and activities.

Assessment Overview• Art Review (1,000 words)

Due date: Monday 7 September Weighting: 20%

• Essay (1,500 words) Due date: Monday 5 October Weighting: 30 %

• Research Project - Exhibition Proposal Presentation (15-20 minutes )Due dates: Tutorials in Weeks 12 and 13Weighting: 30%

• This unit of study uses Moodle, a learning management system similar to WebCT, but an open source system with some features that WebCT doesn’t have.

• This site will provide updated information on the course, extra resources, a forum for online discussion, and space for publishing assignment components.
