I hae had the honor of writing about Michael Giacchino before. And, while it is always a pleasure

and priilege, I hae neer been more grateful. Because, as you will discoer, Mr. Giacchino has outdone

himself this time. Nt nly has he epane an eepene varius themes frm his wrk n ur rstStar Trek lm, but he has written remarkable new cues, mst ntably the theme fr ur villain, playeby the incomparable Benedict Cumberbatch.

When Michael rst playe Harrisn’s theme fr me, I was re. It spke t me in a way I culn’thave anticipate. It helpe me ene a character that was central t a lm I was still eiting. The suite

had brilliance, fear, pride, mania, hubris, darkness, and still, somehow, sympathy. It was yet anotherstrke f genius wing frm the pen f Michael Giacchin. I’m nt even sure why I was surprise. Anthat isn’t nearly the nly gem in this new scre (just t mentin ne ther favrite: his cues fr the se-

quence on Kronos hae a grit, power, and raw energy of which I could hae only dreamed). Needless to

say, yet again, his scre elevates every minute f the lm. I have never been mre pru f, r gratefulfor, a collaboration.

Michael? You are a dear friend and an absolute wiard.And I cannot wait until my net lucky opportunity to be

amaed by, and to write about, you.
