The willful and repeated use of cell phones, computers, and other electronic communication devices to harass and threaten others are considered as cyber bullying and is prohibited by law and policy.Cyber bullying occurs when technology is used to further the bullying act. Harassment is prohibited on any electronic communication, devices or cyber space activity whose origin is from a school oriented act/relation.

Digital AccessIn order to enhance educational opportunities for its students, it shall be the policy of the Fairfield City Board of Education to permit access to and use of developing technology resources, including but not limited to the “Internet.” To ensure that students receive a quality education and that employees are able to work in a professional and intellectually-stimulating environment, the Fairfield City Board of Education provides students and employees with opportunities to access a variety of technology resources, including the Internet (Code of Student Conduct 2014).

Acceptable Technology Use Policy

The use must be in support of education or research , or otherwise consistent with the educational objectives of the Board. Transmission or receipt of any material in violation of any state or federal law is prohibited. The use of computers and the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and their unauthorized or inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those privileges(Code of Student Conduct 2014).

Email & Internet Safety

Pay extra attention to the sites you visit and click on (they could be inappropriate)

Always log off when using public computers

Limit the amount of personal information you post to social media sites

Set parental controls to screen inappropriate content while children are using the internet

Monitor children’s internet use and the amount of time spent online

WATCH OUT FOR:

VIRUSES, FRAUD, &

IDENTITY THEFTUse passwords that are hard for others to figure out

Only download from reputable & reliable sites

Don’t open emails from unknown senders

Avoid email scams that ask for SSN, bank account & credit card info

Install protection software to prevent spam, viruses, etc.

Classroom Rules for Cell phones •Rule #1: Cell phone ringers must always be kept on silent mode.

•Rule #2: Cell phones must be put away, away from all students, when they are not being used for class purposes.•Rules #3: All media and messages must be course related and used for academic/learning purposes.•Rule #4: Always remember… no message/media is private – your digital footprint is permanent! Follow safe and appropriate usage guidelines.•Rule #5: Be responsible for your own property- label your phone for identification purposes (school/district is not responsible for lost or damaged property).•Rule #6: Any occurrence (or suggestion of occurrence) of bullying, harassment, cheating or any form of inappropriate use of cell phone and social media will not be tolerated. Student will immediately lost usage privileges and be subject to school, district and legal consequences if found guilty of any offense.

Classroom Computer Rules

•Do not have food or drinks near the computer.•Do not send, display, or download offensive, profane, or prurient messages or pictures.•Do not violate copyright laws.•Do not use another user’s password.•Do not upload or create computer viruses.
