4 -Identities as citizens - A form of social status?
‘As a category, citizenship designates a set of actors - citizens - distinguished by their shared privileged position vis-a-vis some particular state. As a tie, citizenship identifies an enforceable mutual relation between an actor and state agents. As a role, citizenship includes all of an actor's relations to others that depend on the actor's relation to a particular state. And as an identity, citizenship can refer to the experience and public representation of category, tie or role.’ (Tilly, 1995)
