The project: Cabspotting

Cabspotting (2008) was created totrace taxis (as the travel) through the

Bay Area. The main project is based

on invisible dynamics.

What the tracker does, is that itaverages the routes into a ghostly

image and then draws routes.

Its mission is to reveal

cultural and economic

patterns as a work ofinteractive data and

visualization.

It tracks the movements

of cabs through a city,visualizing these traces

as a dynamically

changing animated map.

Invisible dynamics explores the

meanings and representations ofplace. To be able to create

cabspotting, they searched and

worked in many fields:

art, design, cultural geography,cartography, information design,

sociology, hydrology, marine sciences

and history.

artist, filmmaker and

reasercher. His platforms gofrom mobile devices to large

public spaces. His interactive

media encourages people to

participate socially, emotionally

and physically.

He has a permanent collection

at the Whitney Museum here in

NY.

Amy Balkin is also an atrist that

combines cross disciplinaryresearch and social critique to

generate discursive systems.

Her most outstanding projects

are:

Greeenpeace (exxonsecrets.org),

Public Smog and Cape Farewell

expeditions.

creates interactive design and

data visualization. They have ahuge range of clients: financial

institutions, artists, architects,

car manufacturers, design
