7 FUN FACTS ABOUT RAINBOWSIt’s so cool to see a rainbow in the sky after a rainstorm! Here are some facts about the science of rainbows:

1 Rainbows have more than 1 million colors. The main colors

are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. But there are many more hues of color in between!

2 Not all rainbows appear with rain. A rainbow happens when

light bends through water droplets in the air. This might happen with rain, dew, fog, spray, or mist.

3 You can’t touch a rainbow. It’s an amazing sight to see, but not

an object you can touch.

4 Rainbows can multiply. With a double rainbow, a second rainbow

appears above the main one with reversed colors. It’s possible to see triple and quadruple rainbows, too!

5 The shape of a rainbow is a full circle. However, what we see usu-

ally looks like an arc. The other half of the circle is hidden below the horizon. You might be able to see a full rainbow from an airplane or tall mountain.

6 Rainbows can appear at night. An evening rainbow is made by

reflecting moonlight instead of sunlight. This is called a moonbow or lunar rainbow.

7 You can create a rainbow! Grab a garden hose and stand with your

back to the sun. Spray the water up in the air and look for a rainbow.

Have you ever tried to follow a rain-bow? You may not have luck finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow — but you can keep your money safe in your savings account with DCU!

Oh no! Liam the leprechaun was busy looking for gold coins and lost his pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Can you follow the right path to help him find it?
