Social Media Site - (Mark Zuckerberg)
Essentially - it’s a free website facility
It can be used for a business or an interest group site, or it can be used as a personal homepage
It is a social media site – allowing the uploading of photos, videos, event scheduling, interactive advertising etc
Critically it is about ‘friend’ network building – thus it is perfect for sharing with family, friends, and a market target such as the local community

Major advantages: It’s free to start up! It maintains its own anti-virus software updating It is very user-friendly It is a well known and familiar online presence provider – your
site is usually just one click away from your target audience You can measure its success: no. of friends, no. of
likes/shares/comments per post. You can cross-post with other business sites re media relevant
sharing, for example, The Barbican installation You can schedule events, and event reminders, to keep your
audience updated.
Facebook: Advantages & Disadvantages
Major disadvantages: Advertising your site throughout Facebook to collate
friends etc., operates by pay per click, or a daily amount for a given no. of days (5euro per day).
You cannot sell through Facebook as yet
Facebook may not reach your target purchasing audience – public interest mainly

Social Media Site – For personal or business pages
Google+ is not unlike Facebook – v. similar functions but it operates in a social spheres, portfolio, and traditional website manner
So – you have a cover page with logo insert and then a toolbar with ‘about us’| ‘posts’| ‘photos’| ‘collections’| ‘videos’| ‘reviews’
Rather than friends, the site has ‘views’ metric, ‘followers’, ‘following’, and ‘hang-outs’ (i.e., blogging facility)
Google+: Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages It’s free to start up The site updates its own anti-virus
software You can twin it with an e-mail address, so a
free indigo artists e-mail address could be added
It looks like a professional business website (no need for an independent website)
It allows portfolio like sections for catalogues and videos, but it is ‘Gallery-like’
You can +1 your posts and they receive web visibility throughout google search engines without cost
Disadvantages
It needs a lot more content building than Facebook to start the site for public advertising
Unless you have a prepared online audience, it might not lead you directly to your purchasing audience
For advertising there are fees through Google Search for SEO (search engine optimisation)

Very much about the individual and their facilitated networking with other groups, institutions, other individual artists

Facilitates job hunting and increased personal brand awareness
It’s a fee paying online marketing option

Very user-friendly – not unlike filling out a form for your cv
Excellent for individual career profiling You can use it for personal or business

Options Most likely to facilitate purchasing,
gallery, or other artists networking and linking up
Posts have their own online link and can help build a review catalogue
Gallery format per individual artist and artist cv are possible
Disadvantages
Only free of cost for a limited amount of time – Monthly fee
Individual and collective costs
Requires daily monitoring per individual.
Very much a needs-bases analysis option

‘big four’ is the norm, but two main social media, and LinkedIn per individual artist’s needs might be more feasible
Nominating a online marketing role within the formal level of the group would be helpful – a central person to send
Keep sending in selected portfolios of your paintings – I will start to build individual galleries for Facebook, and Google+
Schedule of events will be required to ensure tandem online and conventional marketing of exhibitions, community engagement days, individual exhibitions etc.
Keep sending your e-mail addresses in too – we need a coordinated online marketing folder for the group
