Digital Natives and Digital immigrants

Nowadays educational systems are facing a serious problems about how to use new technology

with today´s students, they are very comfortable using computers, videogames, smartphones, etc.,

but for instructors who were trained a couple of decades in the past have adopted this new way of

communication in order to be part of the Digital world.

For this phenomenon it has been created two terms for today´s technology users, Digital Natives

and Digital immigrants, digital natives are those who has been born surrounded by computers,

internet, smartphones and so on, they don’t need to read instructions to understand a software or

a program, they do it naturally, but there are those who haven’t been born surrounded by the new

technology and these have learned almost by imposition these new technologies if they have to

survive in this digital world, they cannot understand a program if they don’t read the instruction,

their lack of knowledge about new technology is very noted.

To sum up digital immigrants have to be adapted with new technologies and not digital natives to

be adapted to old methods of teaching.
