How I Wrote my Informational Essay
By: Terry Qi
Step One: I first wrote my BIG question and Thesis
My BIG question: What makes the Trojan War so important that people still remember it today?
My Thesis: Although there were many massive wars that took place in ancient times, the Trojan War is the most interesting and fascinating.
Step Two: I then made a plan for the three sub-topics
I used pieces of paper to plan our essays. We wrote our Theses and research information in the plan. Our plan contained five parts: Introduction, Body paragraph #1, Body paragraph #2, Body paragraph #3, Conclusion.
Here is my plan for the first body paragraph.
Step Three: After that, I looked up information about my topic in the internet and books.
I organized my information and notes using the “Boxes and Bullets” organization.

Step Four: Next, I wrote my draft for the five paragraphs
To write the paragraphs, I had to follow a special organization: Topic sentence, fact/detail, explain, fact/detail, explain, fact/detail, explain, conclusion paragraph. I had to type 3-4 fact/detail and explanation sentences.
My first body paragraph draft.
Step Five: I then revised my draft
I revised my draft using the “color coding” method. I highlighted my draft by the special organization I used to organize my draft.

Step Six: Then, I wrote a Bibliography
A bibliography is a section of a informational essay that lists your resources, such as books and websites. To write a Bibliography, I had to organize my resources by a special form. Each type of resource has its own form. Some are similar to others, some are not.

Finally, I published my informational essay
My complete informational essay
To publish, I had to type up my essay, and include the bibliography.
