Digital Smile DesigningThe Latest in State of the Art Dentistry
IntroductionDigital Smile Designing is a modern technique that allows for customized
accurate designing of new smile makeovers. It is a tool used to personalize
your new smile so that it ultimately looks like it belongs to you and suits you.
This innovative tool facilitates the ultimate vision of the new smile. Among its
many uses, it is regularly used as a diagnostic tool to plan and design the new
smile according to the patient’s exact requirements.
It is also used to help the patient visualize the planned final smile and involve
the patient in the smile designing process.
It is also used to accurately communicate the final design to the ceramist, so
that Dr. Paul Abrahams and the ceramist can work more successfully as a team
both understanding exactly what the patients needs and requirements are.
Digital Smile Designing facilitates treatment planning and helps to better
diagnose a new smile design that is facially and emotionally driven. It
connects theoretical design work to practical functionality and use of the
teeth in the mouth.
Design takes account of many aspects including: the bite, aestheticsand
function of the teeth.
The tool gives insights into various cosmetic treatment possibilities; so that
we can create multiple design options for the patient.
It is also a better integration tool for the interdisciplinary team to easily
communicate between each other regarding their respective information.
Introduction
Dr. Abrahams then determines the exact aesthetics and
cosmetic look that you require.
3 - Final Porcelain Aesthetics.
The Process Firstly, Dr. Paul Abrahams will analyse your exiting smile,
teeth, gums, bite and mouth. You will have an in depth
discussion regarding what you dislike about your smile
and the things you do like about it. This will give
Dr. Abrahams a clear indication of the type of new smile
that you are looking for.
1 - The Examination.
Dr. Abrahams will then design a new smile based upon
your specific requirements for your new smile
makeover. Dr. Abrahams uses advanced digital smile
designing technology to do this using specially created
scans of all your teeth. You will be able to preview your
smile of this digital software.
2 - Smile Designing.
4 - The Treatment
Dr. Abrahams then feeds this information into a special
Cerec machine. This is called a “Biocopy”. The machine
is then set to mill your new teeth according you’re your
customized specifications in the biocopy.
5 - Biocopy
Final checks are made to ensure great quality and correct
aesthetics. The new teeth are then fitted onto your own
teeth with a strong long lasting bonding technique.
6 - Final Checks
The surfaces of your teeth are then prepared to be able
to receive the new porcelain shapes. Various diagnostics
and records are then taken. However, there are no moulds
taken of your teeth since these are simply scanned into a
computer.
CERECCrownsWHAT IS CEREC?
CEREC is the new phenomenon in dentistry, it completely digitises the manufacturing process. Normally you would
require a cumbersome impression material to be put into your mouth to take a record of your teeth, with CEREC this is
done digitally with a special video camera.
With conventional crowns, veneers and inlays the restorations are made by a dental technician, this can take up to 2
weeks. During this two-week period you would normally be required to have a bothersome temporary restoration. You
would also need an injection at the beginning of treatment whilst we prepared the tooth and then another injection at
the end when we fit the new tooth.
CEREC means this whole process is shortened to one day, no impression goo, fewer injections and one appointment.
WHY CHOOSE CEREC FOR YOUR NEW FILLING, CROWN OR VENEER?
• No unpleasant impression material
• No follow-up appointment
• No bothersome temporary restoration
• Fewer dental injections
The Final Aethestics Of Your New SmileUnlike in previous years, you will be pleased to know that we are able to use a wide range of techniques to create
the stunning looks with the porcelains used in the Cerec machine. We are now able to cosmetically enhance the final
smile makeover creating a natural smile that looks like it belongs to you.
Once upon a time we had monotone looking porcelain created from a single shade of colour. This created a flat
aesthetic with no contrast. Ultimately the resulting smile had a bland unrealistic look. This technique, hence was
restricted to the back teeth where complex aesthetics were not required.
Today, thankfully to great advancements in this field of dentistry we are able to mill teeth using a layered porcelain
block thus creating an illusion of real teeth with many shades of white blending together. This gives more complexity
to the shade portraying as realistic natural looking teeth.
Topical Enhancement: We have the ability to alter the resulting shade using more topical techniques before the
final teeth are glazed. This may not be for everyone, however, we can also use this method to incorporate subtle
stains to give the impression of older teeth should the patient require.
Lustre: Certain types of porcelain (Empress) can be polished by hand subsequently should the need arise. This
maintains lustre and gloss of your new teeth over time.
Characterisation: We can use aesthetic techniques to provide certain character and personality to the porcelains.
We use this to add detail or texture to the surface of teeth. This gives your teeth a very realistic perception with fine
intimate detail. Those looking for natural smiles would benefit from use of this method.
Final Shade: The colour of a tooth is made up of 3 mains aspects – the hue, chroma and value. It must be noted that
the shade selection is very critical and requires fullest understanding of what makes up a shade. Hence this
technique requires experienced and highly skilled cosmetic dentist to be able to select the correct aesthetics for
your teeth.
Overall, for you this means that we are able to achieve great aesthetics for your new smile, providing a stunning
cosmetic appeal.
