2. Introduction Digital storytelling is a form of entertainmentin which game includes a dramatic storylinethrough actions, either by the storysprotagonist, or other characters in thenarrative. Connecting stories through the multiplemediums of digital imagery, text, voice, sound,music and animation in games. 3. Narrating story in Games 4. The designer, need to figure outwhat you intend the viewer to get.What message are you trying toconvey? In other words, what is thetheme? 6. A Dramatic Question A good story has a hook that willhold the attention of the audienceuntil the story is over. 7. Emotional Content A story that deals with ouremotions, (such as loss, love,loneliness, courage, acceptance,rejection, hardship, etc.) will helpthe audience maintain theirattention. 8. The Voice The way narrator use the voice can impact the story. Tone of Voice: Slow, Fast, Loud,Soft(The tone of the storytellers voice provides the drama and sets the mood, while engaging the reader. It draws the reader into the plot development through the use of story elements.) 9. Soundtrack Music sets the mood. The goal is to match the music tothe story. Instrumental music, without words,works the best to create anappropriate mood. The focus should be the narrationand the music should support andenhance the storytelling. 10. Balance Use the least amount of imagesrequired to tell the story. The selection of pictures anddrawings should illustrate thetheme without becoming adistraction. Too many images tend to confusethe audience. 11. Pacing Changing the pace of the story canbe very effective. The narrative canhave pauses, the music can changetempo, and the images can be set toenter at different rates of speed.
