Six tools I recommend:
• Quizlet for quizzes
• Bubbl.us for mindmaps
• Tagxedo for word clouds
• Padlet for a digital pinboard
• Twitter for your personal learning network
• Skype for connecting outside the classroom
How might you use Quizlet?
• Introducing new terms
• Student created glossary of definitions
• Revising before an assessment
• Students creating their own sets for each other (peer teaching)
How might you use Bubbl.us?
• At the beginning if a unit – students create while teacher explains
• During a unit, to find out what has been learned and where to go next
• At the end of a unit – students demonstrate their understanding of a topic
How might you use Tagxedo?
• Brainstorming – what do students already know about a topic?
• Creating an image to share on a blog, tweet, school newsletter or magazine
• What words do students know well and not know at all?
How might you use Padlet?
• Feedback from students
• Brainstorming
• What students already know about a topic
• Exit slips
• Choosing a topic or next unit of work
• Introducing students at the beginning of the year
• Questions about a lesson or unit of work
We use Skype and Blackboard Collaborate to connect with our Scientist in Schools partner,
Melissa Toifl, from CSIRO Land and Water Technologies, in Highett and Clayton.
