Page 2: Digitisation

STEP 1: ASSEMBLING THE COMPONENTSBefore you start any digitisation itself, you need to make sure that you have all the needed equipment and software to upload your intro onto the editing software.

This includes:-The Cannon Ligria HF R28 E-USB digitisation cable-Mac Mini or other computer -Editing software (e.g. iMovie, final cut pro etc.)

Also you need to make sure that the camera is fully charged for the upload process.

STEP 2: CONNECTIONTo begin connecting the components you need to firstly attach the usb digitisation cable into the video camera via the mini usb slot on the side of the camera, behind the flip-out screen. Then connect the other end of the cable into the full size USB slot on the mac mini or other computer.

After this make sure you have both a keyboard and mouse plugged into the computer as well.

STEP 3: LOADINGAfter all connections are established, turn on the computer and the video camera. You must load up the computer’s video editing software, then press the video playback button on the camera. It will show an option for connection types and you must click the “All (for PC only)” option and then wait for it to generate all the thumbnails without skipping.

Once this has finished, it will say USB connection in the top left corner. Do not disconnect the usb cable or power source yet.

STEP 4: UPLOAD This is when we actually digitise the video files onto to the computer to allow for editing of the clips into the final intro. When the camera is set up from the previous step, you must click on the “File” option in the top left of your editing software. Then select the “import from camera...” drop down from this and a pop up window will load. This will show all of the files on the camera and you need to select the ones which you want to upload. Click on the “upload selection” button, then select your aspect ratios, resolutions and save destination.

After the files have uploaded onto the software you can turn of the video camera and disconnect the USB cable from that and the computer. Once this is done, you have successfully digitised your material and are ready for the editing or your files.
