WARNINGPOWER CIRCUIT BREAKERS ARE EQUIPPED WITH HIGH SPEED, HIGHENERGY OPERATING MECHANISMS. THE BREAKERS AND THEIRENCLOSURES ARE SIGNED WITH SEVERAL BUILT-IN INTERLOCKS ANDSAFETY FEATURES INTENDED TO PROVIDE SAFE AND PROPER OPERATINGSEQUENCES. TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM PROTECTION FOR PERSONNELASSOCIATED WITH THE INSTALLATION, OPERATION, AND MAINTENANCE

OF THESE BREAKERS, THE FOLLOWING PRACTICES MUST BE FOLLOWED.FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PRACTICES MAY RESULT IN DEATH,PERSONAL INJURY, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

    Safety Precautions

Periodic tests i this device is required (see Step 15 Testing theBreaker or test procedures)

Only qualiied persons, as deined in the National Electric Code, who are amiliar with the installation and maintenance o powercircuit breakers and their associated switchgear assembliesshould perorm any work associated with these breakers

Completely read and understand all instructions beore attemptingany installation, operation, maintenance, or modiication o thesebreakers

Always turn o and lock out the power source eeding the breakerprior to attempting any installation, maintenance, or modiicationo the breaker Do not use the circuit breaker as the sole meansor isolating a high voltage circuit Follow all lockout and taggingrules o the National Electric Code and all other applicable codes, regulations, and work rules

Do not work on a closed breaker or a breaker with the closingsprings charged Trip (open) the breaker and be sure the storedenergy springs are discharged beore perorming any work Thebreaker may trip open or the charging springs may discharge, causing crushing or cutting injuries

For drawout breakers, trip (open), and then remove the breaker toa well-lit work area beore beginning work

Do not perorm any maintenance: including breaker charging, clos-ing, tripping, or any other unction which could cause signiicant

movement o the breaker while it is on the extension rails Doingso may cause the breaker to slip rom the rails and all, potentiallycausing severe personal injury to those in the vicinity

Do not leave the breaker in an intermediate position in the switch-gear cell Always leave it in the connected, disconnected, or(optional) test position Failure to do so could lead to improperpositioning o the breaker and lashover, causing death, seriouspersonal injury, and / or property damage

Do not deeat any saety interlock Such interlocks are intendedto protect personnel and equipment rom damage due to lash-over and exposed contacts Deeating an interlock could lead todeath, severe personal injury, and / or property damage

    Section 1: Introduction

Eaton Digitrip Retroit Kits are available in a number o conigurationsthat provide a wide range o eatures The Digitrip System startswith the 510 Basic Kit that oers true RMS sensing, overcurrentprotection, and sel-testing eatures Advanced Digitrip Retroit Kitseature zone interlocking, digital alphanumeric displays, remote alarmsignals, PowerNet communications, energy monitoring capabilities,

power actors, and harmonic content measurementsTable 1 provides a quick reerence o the components supplied witheach level o Retroit Kit Beore beginning the Retroit process, take a minute to review the inormation contained in Table 1 It isimportant that the Retroitter understands which level o Retroit Kitis to be installed and which components are included with the Kit

The instructions contained in this manual cover the installation o alllevels o Retroit Kit I the Kit you are installing does not containa certain component, skip the instructions or that component andproceed to the next

Throughout the Retroit process, reer to the Torque Tables at theback o this manual or speciic torque values

I you have any questions concerning the Retroit Kit and / or theRetroit process, contact Eaton at: 1-800-937-5487

    STEP 15: TESTING THE BREAKER

    A. Measure the force necessary to trip theBreaker at the point where the Trip AdjustingScrew Finger impacts the Breaker Trip Plate. The force necessary to trip the Breaker MUST

    NOT EXCEED THREE (3) lbs.

    B. The Retrofit must be tested using primaryinjection. Refer to Section 8 of the Instructionsfor theApplication of Digitrip RMS Retrofit Kitson Power Circuit Breakers (Publication

AD 33-855), supplied with the Retrofit Kit, fordetailed testing procedures and specifica-tions. For test information specific to the TripUnit, refer to the IL publication supplied withthe Retrofit Kit (see the Pick List for the ILnumber).

    C. While Section 8 of theInstructions for theApplication of Digitrip RMS Retrofit Kits onPower Circuit Breakers provides the informa-tion necessary for testing the Breaker, pleasekeep the following notes in mind when review-ing other sections of the publication.

the wiring and examine each connection toassure its integrity.

Confirm that the PowerNet communicationwiring is correct by following the proceduresdetailed in Section 7.4 of the Instructions for

theApplication of Digitrip RMS Retrofit Kits oPower Circuit Breakers. Note that for 810 and910 Kits, the impedance between COM 1 andCOM 2 should be between one (1) and three(3) ohms.

When testing is complete, disconnect theExternal Harness fromthe Cell Harness. FinaExternal Harness connection will be performedlater in the Retrofit Process.

WHEN ALL TESTING IS COMPLETE, THE TRIPUNIT MUST BE RESET. FAILURE TO DO SO

MAY CAUSE THEBATTERY IN THERATINGPLUG TO RUN DOWN.

    NOTES:

    1. ForAll Kits OtherThan510 Basic. If testingthe Breaker with Short Delay or Ground Faultfunctions, be sure to either plug in the CellHarness Assembly or use the Zone InterlockShorting Plug. Failure to do so may result inshorter than expected trip times.

    2. For810 and 910 Kits Only. Without any powerapplied to the system (neither the 120 voltpower supply nor the Aux. Power Moduleconnected), plug the External Harness into theCell Harness and check the impedance be-tween COM 1 and COM 2. The impedanceshould be between one (1) and three (3) ohms.If the impedance is not within this range, trace
