MONET'S "WATER LILIES"

November 5 Mark your calendar for our docent-led tour of the Monet exhibit at the Denver Art Museum.

Because several of you have expressed interest, RMOTHG will have a guided tour of the MONET EXHIBIT on November 5, at 3:00. Yes, almost a year away--isn't it wonderful to live in a city where such an event can be so popular?

Admission to this special exhibit will be $30 for both members and nonmembers. Our group will be limited to 12 participants, the better to hear the docent. Sign-up will be available at the CMC website soon.

June 15 Save it for the RMOTHG ANNUAL PICNIC at Staunton State Park.

SAVE THE DATES!

SECTION CHAIR’S MESSAGE

Happy New Year & Welcome to 2019!

New plans, goals and of course resolutions are often being considered around the 1st of January … and perhaps already changed or disregarded not long after. I guess with each beginning it’s natural to anticipate the possibilities. Your RMOTHG Board is no different as we are busy making plans stemming from last year’s survey and continuing our steadfast goal of guiding this Section of CMC for your best interests.

What’s in store for all of us as we head into this new year may be somewhat unknown, but what I do know is that RMOTHG is going to have another busy and fun year. As you can see in this newsletter our winter activities are taking us down some beautiful trails either on snowshoes or cross country skis … so let the snow fly and the fun continue.

You will also notice an interesting list of social events being scheduled. We have an enthusiastic and creative group of people on our Social Committee with great ideas for our entertainment. Please be aware that most, if not all, of this year’s social events will require you to sign-up on the CMC Website (just as you do for our other activities) and to pay any fees as required for an event at the same time. We really encourage you to sign-up earlier rather than later for any social events not only to make sure you can participate, but it is a huge help particularly when an advance deposit has had to be paid to make the initial reservations. Anyway, I know I have my eye on a few of the upcoming social outings!

Looking briefly back on 2018, we had a good number of new Trip Leaders join our existing dedicated leaders. That was great, so let’s do it again in 2019! If you’ve ever been on a wait list or wished there was a hike or bike ride on a different day…the answer is… become a Trip Leader and change the world of RMOTHG. Soon you could be like Ann Norton who just finished her training and is now an official CMC Trip Leader. Congratulations and thank you so much Ann, for putting in the time. It is really appreciated!

I also want to thank Ida Sansoucy, Ronnie Knueven and Santa for a very nice Holiday Party. The company and food was great so an additional shout out to all who attended!

Cheers and Happy New Year to all!

Over 125 people came to celebrate the season, drink and nosh with fellow members and friends. The drink was plentiful, the food amazing.

It was a GREAT event.

Only made greater by the unbelievable volunteers who came early, whizzed through the set up AND the clean up. I cannot say enough thanks.

I took over 80 toys and stuffed animals to the Action Center in Lakewood. That's my Subaru packed with joy.....and that's Mark, an employee of the Action Center, helping unload my car.

The best to all of you this season and the year to come. What a great group of special people.

Ida Sansoucy

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

SNOWSHOEING

Come join us January on winter hikes and snowshoes in our Colorado mountains and foothills! We offer A and B winter hikes, snowshoes with varied paces and distances for different abilities. Read descriptions Thursday night when most of the next Wednesday trips are posted for previewing on the CMC calendar (Exceptions: Sometimes leaders scout Fridays and can only post trips at last minute!) Look again when Jeff sends out the Friday 5 p.m. email listing of those trips with links to the CMC site where you actually sign up! If you aren’t on the email list and want to be, email [email protected]. Our snowshoes & winter hikes often follow a casual pace for about two hours till lunch, and return. Optional after-trip snack stops offer a bit of hiker/shoer bonding.

Feel free to call leaders to see if a trip is right for you.

Our tentative January trip schedule is below (Trips may be added/changed.) We’ll keep offering winter spike-hikes till we get snow enough to snowshoe or find deeper snow in the mountains. Winter weather invigorates us RMOTHG shoers/hikers as we trek on winter versions of summer trails, but we don’t like to start miserably. We prepare for all conditions, but most of us want to enjoy our Wednesday trips, not prove ourselves! We’re big on safety and won’t hike or snowshoe if conditions aren’t right for us all. We also make sure we can get to a trail and return from it safely (Leaders check weather/road conditions.) Luckily, our members are supportive and understanding when leaders need to cancel a hike or snowshoe.

Come be invigorated with us in January and wish for snow!
