Our Parish Mission Statement
“We the people of St. Joseph’s Parish open our hearts and doors to those from all walks of life so that they too may share in
the everlasting presence of God. Together we strive to grow closer to Jesus Christ through the Holy Eucharist. We keep

faith.”

March 6-7 -- Third Sunday of Lent The second reading for this Sunday reminds us that the power of Jesus, our Crucified Lord is greater than what every culture of that time or any time has to offer. God’s power and wisdom go beyond what we can even imagine. As we listen to the “wisdom” and “power” of the political voices that rule the news airwaves, Paul’s letter to the Corinthians can help us to remember to pay attention to “God’s folly and God’s weak-ness”. We have much to learn from Christ who looked so foolish and weak and yet all true power was his and is his. How can we confront the false powers of today with God’s folly and weakness which is true pow-er?

Pope St. Gregory the Great
Feast Day: Sept. 13
Patron: Musicians, Singers, Students, Teachers
Pope Saint Gregory I, also known as the Great, was the Pope of the Catholic Church between 590 and 604 AD. He was born around 540 in Rome. The exact date of his birth is unknown. Gregory was born into a wealthy family. His great-great-grandfather was Pope Felix III who reigned from 483 to 492. (Astute readers may suspect this to be a scandal, but this was at a time before the clergy took vows of celibacy.) His father was a senator and a Prefect of Rome (like a modern day Mayor). Gregory's mother, Silvia and his aunt, Pateria, are both recognized as saints in the Catholic and Orthodox churches. Gregory had a brother, but nothing is recorded, neither his name or his fate...

Why give to the poor?
Lent helps us to realize how blessed we are. By taking care of those less fortunate than us we become more
‘Christ-like’. Take the money you’d spend on a fast-food meal, candy, etc. and donate it to the poor (or put in your Ashes to Easter box!)
