KINGSHIP. The book of Samuel recounts for us today the anointing of David as king of Israel. It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus mandated by the citizens of his
kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings. The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly monarchs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King. And lastly, we hear the story of that true King in perhaps his weakest moment: near death, hanging on a cross, taunted by a common criminal and by the world at large.
Today is Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe God has given us the earth, a land flowing with milk and honey. We show our thankfulness by being wise and selfless stewards of the earth, and by sharing our
gifts with one another. Father Dennis, Deacon Greg, Deacon Malcolm, Deacon John & Parish Staff would
like to wish all parishioners a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving 2016!
There will be a Thanksgiving Day Mass celebrated by Father Dennis at the church on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at 9 a.m. Please join us!
A reminder to all the wonderful parishioners who volunteered to cook a turkey for “THANKSGIVING AT THE HUB": All turkeys are to be delivered between 8:15 and 8:30 on
Thanksgiving morning at Our Lady of the Lake’s parking lot. May God bless you for your time and talent in this very worthwhile cause! In Observance of Thanksgiving, the Parish Office will be closed on Wednesday, November 23rd, after the 12 noon Mass and reopen on Monday, November 28th. Due to the Thanksgiving Holidays, there will be no morning or evening Faith Formation Classes, Confirmation or Adult Bible Study next Sunday, November 27th. Classes resume on December 4.
A Message from Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone
The Daughters of St. Paul have requested a day of prayer for their community and their charism of evangelization. They have been a marvelous presence in the city of Charleston for over 25 years. Their Catholic bookstore on King Street is a beacon of light in our city and they have been tremendously present to so many throughout the diocese. I declare a day of prayer for the Daughters of St. Paul in the Diocese of Charleston on Nov. 26, the feast day of their founder, Blessed James Alberione.

Our Advent Journey Begins
What happens when the scriptural Christmas story collides with historical truths? Does it fall apart? Not one bit! What happens is that we get a more thorough understanding of both the challenges and wonder that accompanied Christ’s birth. Dr. Scott Hahn - one of the most eminent Catholic theologians in our country today- reveals what scholars now know about the shepherds, the mysterious Magi, and King Herod. Your Advent journey will take on new meaning as you prepare your heart for the birth of our Lord. This illuminating presentation is sure to help you grow in appreciation of the greatest gift ever given to mankind - Jesus Christ. (CDs & Books can be found in the Vollkommer Tower).
Please Keep in Your Prayers
