THE INTRODUCTION
Bishop: Alleluia, Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
The Lord be with you
And also with you
Bishop:
I have come to institute Venerable Mzinzisi Dyantyi as the Rector of the
Cathedral of St Michael and St George, and the Dean of Grahamstown. I call
upon you all to pray for him as he accepts this responsibility. As he dedicates
himself to this ministry, so I ask you to dedicate yourselves afresh to God’s
service so that together you may work to build up Christ’s Church and to
seek his Kingdom. And so my Brothers and Sisters, let us ask God’s help in
preparing ourselves to celebrate the holy mysteries of God.
Synaxist, Canon Noluthando Gixana:
Let us pray
1. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the
King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy
health and salvation!
All ye who hear,
Now to His temple draw near,
Joining in glad adoration.
2. Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things
so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so
gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen
All that is needful hast been
Granted in what He ordaineth?
3. Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper
thy work and defend thee!
Surely His goodness and mercy here
daily attend thee;
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee.
4. Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in
me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come
now with praises before Him!
Let the amen
Sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.
Processional Hymn: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty. EH 536
The altar is censed during this hymn.
5
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and
from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by
the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy Name, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
THE PENITENCE
Kyrie: (said)
Lord have mercy Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy Christ have mercy
Lord have mercy Lord have mercy
Let us confess ours sins, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to
live in love and peace with our neighbour.
Silence
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in penitence we confess that we
have sinned against you, through our own fault in thought, word
and deed, and in what we have left undone. For the sake of your
Son, Christ our Lord, forgive us all that is past, and grant that we
may serve you in newness of life, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
The Absolution
Bishop:
Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent,
Have mercy on you, pardon your sins and set you free from them;
Confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
And keep you in eternal life;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Collect
Almighty God, giver of all good gifts
By your Holy Spirit you call many
To serve as priests in your Church:
Bless Mzinzisi, now called to serve you in this parish
Give him grace to know the truth
Of your Holy Gospel
And by his life and teaching to proclaim Christ
That Mzinzisi may faithfully fulfil his ministry
And together with these your people
Further the work of your Church;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

means of sharing in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf we, many
as we are, are one body; for it is one loaf of which we all partake. For every

Lord, until he comes.” (I Corinthians 10:16-17, 11:26)

2. Jesus lives! henceforth is death
But the gate of Life immortal;
This shall calm our trembling breath,
When we pass its gloomy portal.
Alleluya!
3. Jesus lives! for us He died;
Then alone to Jesus living,
Pure in heart may we abide,
Glory to our Saviour giving.
Alleluya!
4. Jesus lives! our hearts know well
Naught from us His love shall sever;
Life, nor death, nor powers of hell
Tear us from His keeping ever.
Alleluya!
5. Jesus lives! to Him the Throne
Over all the world is given;
We, in spirit with Him one,
Rest and reign with Him in heaven.
Alleluya!

Recessional Hymn: Thine be the glory! Songs of Fellowship 551
1. Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son,
Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won;
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded grave-clothes where thy body lay.
Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son,
Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won
2. Lo, Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb;
Lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom;
Let the Church with gladness hymns of triumph sing,
For her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting:
3. No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of Life;
Life is nought without thee: aid us in our strife;
Make us more than conquerors through thy deathless love;
Bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above:
