MOST REV. DANIEL R. JENKY, C.S.C. OFFICE OF THE BISHOP OFFICE OF THE BISHOP 419 N.E. MADISON AVE. DIOCESE OF PEORIA PEORIA, ILLINOIS 61603
November, 2019 Dear Pastors, In the Diocese of Peoria, we have a lot to be thankful for. In fact, the word Eucharist, the central reality of our faith, literally means “thanksgiving.” As a bishop, I am particularly grateful every time I ordain a man to the priesthood and send him out to minis-ter to the people of this great diocese. I am also grateful for those young men who have said “yes” to discerning a call the priest-hood, and who have entered our seminary program. This Thanks-giving weekend, please give thanks for these men and show your support by giving generously to the St. Therese Seminarian Fund.
This fund pays for the tuition, room and board for theologians — those seminarians who have already graduated college (either a university or a college seminary). It also covers the salaries, office costs and marketing expenses that help keep our seminari-an program afloat.
On Sunday December 1st, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, I invite you to give thanks for those who are giving their lives to the Church. There will be a second collection at each Mass that weekend. Please make checks payable to the Catholic Diocese of Peoria Office of Priestly Vocations. Thank you for your generosity, and please know of my prayers. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C. BISHOP OF PEORIA Blessings, Doreen Shipman
We welcome Sr. Gemma Fernandez to our St. Patrick School family. Sr. Gemma is a member of the Franciscan Apostol-ic Sisters who reside in Peoria. Sr. Gemma earned her degree at Isabella College Foundation in Canayan City, Phillippines. She began her teaching in sixth grade then moved to kindergarten. She taught religion to all ages includ-ing high school students. Sr. Gem-ma came to the United States in 2011. She taught in Nebraska for eight years before coming to Peoria and assigned to teach at St. Patrick School. Sr. Gemma teaches first, second, and third grade religion. She also helps supervise the lunch hours and assists primary teachers.
In her spare time, Sr. Gemma loves to garden planting vegeta-bles and flowers. It makes her feel happy and full of joy. She likes to cook making simple foods putting her heart and soul into her cooking for the best outcome. Sr. Gemma loves to read and attend chapel. Goals she has are to impart the love of Adoration to students and build a strong faith foundation in their minds and hearts.
