MOTORCYCLE MECHANICS DIPLOMA PROGRAM | Lee County Campus 1105 Kelly Drive | Sanford, NC 27330 PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Motorcycle Mechanics diploma program at Central Carolina Community College is known throughout the state and the region. The program is the only one in North Carolina that is factory supported. Major manufacturers, such as Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, and Kawasaki Motor Companies, support the program through the donation of equipment and other instructional materials. Through hands-on instruction, students learn and develop the basic knowledge and skills needed to inspect, diagnose, repair, and adjust motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. Furthermore, the students participate in numerous shop assignments, practices, and demonstrations. Visitors to our facility are impressed by the variety of tools, the order and cleanliness of the shop space, and by the amount of equipment we have for utilization in our instructional program. As a result of the program’s excellent reputation, faculty members are able to assist students in locating employment shortly after graduation. The Motorcycle Mechanics diploma program is a day program that is three semesters in length. The program begins in the fall semester (August), with enrollment being limited to eighteen students. INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM SHOULD EXPECT THE FOLLOWING • Complete all admission requirements in a timely manner. • Eighteen applicants will be selected for admittance into the program each fall. Applicants are eligible to be admitted to the program when all admission requirements have been completed. • Applicants who have submitted all admission requirements, but did not get admitted into the program will be placed on a wait list. These applicants will be notified if a seat becomes available in the fall semester only. • Wait listed applicants are highly encouraged to enroll in the general education course work within the Motorcycle Mechanics diploma program and day certificate programs while waiting for seat availability. www.cccc.edu ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • Complete and return an application for admission or complete the application online at www.cccc.edu. • Submit an official high school transcript or official high school equivalency. • Submit an official college transcript if you are requesting transfer credit for applicable prior course work. • Take the English and Math sections of the placement test. • Developmental courses must be complete before program entry. • Submit additional information if it is requested. • To be admitted to this program, applicants must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency.

Length of ProgramThe Motorcycle Mechanics diplomaprogram is three semesters in length. Students take a total of 47 semester hours. Graduation occurs at the end of the summer semester.

Day courses are instructed:Monday through Friday8:00 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.

Graduation occurs at the end ofthe summer semester.

All classes are held at the Lee County Campus, Sanford, NC.

Financial AidTuition is paid at the time ofregistration and is based on credithours for that semester. If needed,students should apply for financialaid early or have a payment planready for registration. There areseveral different types of aid available:(1) Students can apply for federalgrants at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Ourschool code is 005449; (2) Twoscholarships are available for theprogram: the Richard Scott GrantMemorial Scholarship and the MichaelCharles Delamere Scholarship. Thescholarship application deadline eachyear is May 1. The college does nothave an educational loan program.Approval for financial aid does notimply acceptance into the program.Motorcycle Mechanics students areadmitted into the diploma programbased on having all admissionrequirements complete.

Textbooks/Other EquipmentTextbooks are required for all of thecourses in the MotorcycleMechanics program.

The textbooks can be purchasedat the Central Carolina CommunityCollege Bookstore located on theSanford campus. Some materialsand equipment, such as tools, aresupplied to our college for studentuse. However, courses may haveadditional supplies that need tobe purchased.

Diploma or Certificate?Students pursuing the diplomaprogram take a total of 47 semesterhours. Courses include topics suchas Motorcycle Mechanics, Chassis,Fuel Systems, Engines, Dyno Tuning,Electricity, Machining, Welding,English, Math, and Computers.These courses are taught on a varietyof motorcycles and courses areinstructed full-time during the day.The placement test is required for thediploma program. Students pursuingthe certificate program take a total of15 semester hours. This program onlyconsists of four courses: Introductionto Transportation Technology, BasicTransportation Electricity, MotorcycleChassis, and Motorcycle Engines.These courses are taught onHarley-Davidson motorcycles and theprogram is instructed part-time duringthe day or evening. The placementtest is not required for thecertificate program.
