Dear Parent,

Greetings from DPS-Miyapur!

India is a land of rich and vibrant festivals that serves as a testimony to our diverse

tradition and culture. It helps us to understand and appreciate the rich heritage of our

country and learn about the fascinating stories and importance of the various festivals.

Each and every festival is celebrated uniquely and has its own history, legend and

significance of celebration. For students, it is a great way and opportunity to understand

the rich and vibrant heritage of India. So, besides excelling themselves in academics, the

aim of the school also lies in exposing them to an assortment of our vibrant, mythical and

fascinating culture as well as the heritage of our country through the different special

assemblies. The month of August was an amalgamation of colorful festive assemblies and

intellectual, thought provoking and motivating academic events.

The festive month of August kick started with the Raksha Bandhan celebration. Raksha

bandhan is one of the most endearing ways to celebrate the bond between brothers and

sisters. To strengthen this bond, a Special Assembly was organized by the students of

Grade VI at DPS- Miyapur on 3rd August, 2017. The celebrations saw an inspiring show,

put up by the students. The students also beautifully depicted the significance of this

festival through a skit which included mythological stories and the famous story of

Humayun and Rani Karnavati related to the origin of the festival. The main purpose of this

skit was to make children aware of the bond of love between brothers and sisters that

transcends the confines of the family. The programme was enjoyed by the students and

teachers alike.

"Rakhi is the thread that binds two souls in a bond of joy forever."

'Raksha Bandhan' means the bond of protection. This festival celebrates the precious love

between brother and sister. Students of LKG celebrated this auspicious day on 3rd of

August, 2017. In the morning they had a special assembly where they were enlightened

with the importance of Raksha Bandhan. Students also sang and danced to the beautiful

songs of Raksha Bandhan.

The girls of LKG tied the rakhi the sacred thread to the boys of their class in a traditional

way and exchanged sweets with each other. The class teachers tied rakhi to the girls. A

rakhi was given as a take away. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Two more informative and edifying competitions were

organized on 3rd August 2017. The ‘Mind Boggle’ contest

took place for the students of Grade VI and VII in which

all the students participated enthusiastically. This contest

gave an opportunity to the students to enable them to think critically and sharpen their

solemnity to the occasion. Another beautiful dance

“Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”

– Pedro Calden de la Barca

Green day was celebrated with great zeal and passion by

the LKG children on 11th August, 2017. The students and

teachers came to school dressed in pretty green attire. The

classrooms were beautifully decorated in green and all the

green objects from a child’s immediate surroundings were brought to the classrooms.

Students were taught the recognition of green fruits, vegetables and birds. The different

virtues of green, its importance in the National Flag, Traffic light, School logo etc. were

explained to the students. Students also learnt that green colour symbolizes growth, harmony

and freshness. To inculcate a sense of responsibility among children towards nature, it was

explained to them why it is important to keep the world around them green. Many activities

like colour dabbling with a leaf, palm printing, and storytelling were organized for the kids.

All in all, green day celebration was a wonderful practical learning experience for the children

and they enjoyed it thoroughly.
