DIRTYROTTENSCOUNDRELS

Join us for the journey…TRANSFORMATION: a complete change in the appearance or character of something (or someone), often as a result of an outside force, especially so that thing (or person) is improved.

Whenever the world changes, theatre changes with it, often leading the way for audiences and artists alike to explore the possibilities presented by an alteration in the way we view ourselves. Through historic and often chaotic times, theatre has always been there to show us the potential that exists in a world transformed by things beyond our control.

OCT’s 71st season is filled with stories of characters and places transformed – from clever con men to magical beasts, from brave adventurers to a family teetering on a rooftop. Our gift to you, our audience, is a season of plays and musicals that will take you on a journey through a world that has changed and has emerged ever more joyful, ever more alive.

We look forward to sharing Season 71 with you. We know that you will be transformed as you journey with us to places filled with the magic of live theatre.

Katrina Ploof Artistic Director

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes – how do you measure? Measure a year? These lyrics from the Broadway musical Rent certainly took on new meaning for so many of us, including those of us at Ocala Civic Theatre.

The past 13 months have been challenging for many community theatres across the United States. OCT is so fortunate to have remained open and operational, producing world-class performances for our community during this massive pandemic.

We took every single safety precaution available to us, knowing that “the show must go on.” We thank each and every one of you who supported our efforts and allowed us to offer an incredible six-show season while we welcomed so many of you back to the theatre.

Sometimes I sit in the theatre and watch our crew diligently work on building sets with such care and precision. I watch our actors rehearse with zest and vigor, with a focus on pleasing you, our patrons. I sit there and think how fortunate I am to experience all of this and to be able to share it all… with you!

We know that with your ongoing support we will continue to provide you with wonderful plays, exceptional educational programs, and special events and experiences for another 70 years. Please consider making a monthly donation to the theatre, or join our Break a LEGacy Society with a gift of $1,000.

Again, thank you and remember… In the theatre, the audience wants to be surprised – but by things they expect. Expect an incredible 2021-2022 season!

Charming con artists Lawrence and Freddy lead lavish lives by sweet-talking wealthy women out of their money. But the south of France isn’t big enough for both crooks, so they make a deal: The first to swindle a certain heiress out of her fortune wins, and the other must leave town. Full of hilarious hijinks and clever capers, it’s a delightfully jazzy musical romp along the Riviera!

An eccentric Dutch librarian finds a battered travel guide in the return bin – 113 years overdue. Checked out by only the initial “A.” in 1873, the book has notes in every language scrawled in the margins and a clue hidden in its pages. The librarian embarks on a quest around the world and centuries into the past to seek the mysterious borrower’s identity. It’s a tale full of twists and turns…

Once upon a time in long-ago France, a prince is turned into a beast for his heartless ways. The curse must be broken by true love before the last petal falls from an enchanted rose. But the magic truly begins when Belle, a spirited young woman from a nearby village, enters the Beast’s spellbound world… This “tale as old as time” is brought to life in a spectacular stage version of the classic fairytale!
