ABOUT USAt the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), we offer multiple pathways where you can turn your college diploma into a university degree in as little as two years. You will be immersed in programs that use industry-current technology to ensure you have the knowledge and skills demanded by employers upon graduation. You will have access to information and technologies, such as online lectures and notes, to keep you connected to your professors and peers.

To enhance your learning experience, you can develop practical skills through co-op placements, internships, Capstone study projects, practicums and undergraduate research opportunities, with one of our more than 300 industry and community partners.

Your professors are leading experts who are widely recognized for their research expertise and also for quality of teaching.

PATHWAYS

ABOUT PATHWAYSPathways programs are designed to transfer the credits you earned in a college certificate or diploma program toward an appropriate undergraduate degree program.

UOIT offers the following types of pathways:

BRIDGE: A prescribed set of foundational courses that leads to qualification for entry into a degree program.

COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMS: Students benefit from a partnership between UOIT and another post-secondary institution. For example, the university’s Post-RPN program is offered in partnership with Durham College and Georgian College.

DIPLOMA-TO-DEGREE: Students receive a prearranged block of credits for their college diploma and proceed into an upper year of study.

DIRECT ENTRY: Successful applicants will receive two full years of advanced standing for their college diploma and will immediately enter their third year of study.

GENERAL ARTS AND SCIENCE TRANSFER: Successful applicants will receive one year of advanced standing for their college certificate and will immediately enter their second year of study.

SCENARIO 1Kristen is currently completing her final semester in the Police Foundations program at Durham College. She will complete her final exams in April and she will formally graduate in June. Her goal is to apply to the Criminology and Justice Bridge program.

She has the opportunity to begin her studies in either May or September. If she commences her studies in May, she can complete all required bridge courses by August and transition into her third year of study in September. This option will put her on track to graduate in June 2018. If she begins

her studies in September, she can complete her bridge requirements on a part-time basis over the course of two semesters. This route will put her on track to graduate in June 2019.

SCENARIO 2Ashvin is a recent graduate of the Computer Systems Technology program at Centennial College. His intention is to apply to the Networking and Information Technology Security Direct Entry program. If he begins full-time studies in September 2016, he will be on track to graduate in June 2018.

If you are enrolled in an approved program at one of the colleges indicated, you are eligible to concurrently pursue UOIT bridge courses. Subsequently, you can apply for direct entry into third year of the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) program. You will have the opportunity to major in the same program you graduated from in college, or enter the comprehensive stream. Our program is designed to quickly advance your career by focusing on the knowledge and skills needed to build rewarding careers within an existing business or entrepreneurial opportunity in the interactive media and game development areas.

You will gain real-world experience through internship work placements (locally or abroad) or Capstone study projects, where you work as part of a team to provide consulting services to one of our industry partners.

Our Gaming and Virtual Reality Laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art workstations and software for development of high-quality animations, models, sound production, game engines and gameplay code. This lab also includes stereoscopic 3D virtual-reality displays and motion-capture systems. You will record sound for voiceovers and music with minimal echo or background noise in an audiometric room coupled with audio recording equipment.

Our program was developed to meet a significant demand in the nuclear power industry for graduates with strong practical experience, technical knowledge and teamwork skills.

You will gain an understanding of the principles and applications of nuclear power technology including the reactor core, balance of plant, radiation management, and operations and maintenance. This program is directed toward understanding the role and safe application of exercise for health maintenance, improvement and rehabilitation. You will be prepared to become a kinesiology practitioner who can safely prescribe individualized exercise programs to improve or maintain the health, functional capacity and overall well-being of a range of healthy and clinical populations.

Kinesiology is now a regulated health profession in Ontario. You will gain the skills and knowledge needed to function as a health professional and to write the competency exam to become a registered kinesiologist. MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) (Honours)

Two-semester practicum placement in fourth year

Modern health care has become increasingly dependent on complex laboratory tests, the results of which aid in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease. You will gain fundamental knowledge and skills in biological, physical and health sciences. The medical laboratory science-specific courses cover five laboratory disciplines: biochemistry, hematology, histotechnology, microbiology and transfusion science.

This program is accredited by the Canadian Medical Association. Upon successful completion, you are eligible to write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science national certification examination and subsequently work in all Canadian provinces and territories.

Crime is not committed in a vacuum. It occurs in a particular socio-economic and political context. Criminology examines the broader social and individual contexts that lead to criminal behaviour. It also examines how criminal justice is shaped by larger social, political and technological contexts, and how those contexts are translated into practice in agencies such as the police, courts, corrections, the juvenile system and various social and government service agencies.

Our program explores and critically analyzes criminological and sociological theories of why people commit crime. It also examines how societies define crime and who is considered a criminal. Our program approaches the study of crime from an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on a rich tradition from criminology, sociology, philosophy, psychology and law. In addition to examining why crime is committed, you will be encouraged to think about crime, criminal justice and its administration in ways that are consistent with the principles of fairness, equity, peace and justice.

Forensic psychology contributes to increased public safety by improving our understanding and support of victims, witnesses and offenders as they move through the criminal justice system from the initial criminal investigation, to their experiences with the court, to rehabilitation and reintegration into the community.

You will study the core areas of psychology - social, cognitive, developmental and abnormal - as well as research methods and data analysis. You will explore a variety of forensic psychology courses that apply psychology to crime, policing, the courts, corrections and other aspects of the justice system. UOIT BOARD OF GOVERNORS’ PATHWAYS AWARDThe UOIT Board of Governors’ Pathways Award is disbursed annually to students coming to the university through its Pathways programs. The awards are presented to students entering each eligible program with the highest incoming average from college. These awards are valued at a minimum of $1,000 each.

IN-COURSE SCHOLARSHIPSIf you achieve a GPA of 3.7 or greater (on a 4.3 scale) during the academic year (based on a full-time course load), you are automatically recognized with a minimum $1,500 scholarship, if returning to full-time studies.

These scholarships may increase to $3,000 and $4,000 through generous contributions from our donors.
