Energy Audits & Studies- Whole Building Assistance
For benefit of the electric utility ratepayer.
Promote energy saving evaluations of building equipment and
operations that consume electricity. The energy study is not
intended to be a sales proposal. All information in the report
must be about the project facility.
Pre-approval is required prior to the start of any audit in
order to ensure budget availability, review any prior studies at
the location, and have a discussion about the goals and
context of the energy analysis.

Phase 1: Energy Audit
Perform energy audit, complete the energy audit
worksheet (provided by Hawaii Energy) and return to
Hawaii Energy for review.
If it is determined that further analysis is necessary, an
energy study or Phase 2 may be conducted and
incentivized. However, if further analysis is not required,
an energy study will not be incentivized by Hawaii Energy.
Energy audit incentives will cover 85% of the audit cost,
up to a $5,000. Incentives are capped at 3¢ per sq. ft. for
lighting and HVAC, with an additional 5¢ per sq. ft. for
buildings with specialty and/or process loads.

Phase 2: Energy Study
o Upon completion of the energy audit and finding the
need for further analysis, an energy study may be
commissioned. Hawaii Energy’s energy study report
must be completed and follow our reporting format.
o Energy Study incentives will be paid upon satisfactory
completion of the report in accordance with one of the
following:
Energy Study Assistance: Payment of 50% of the study
up to a $15,000 total incentive. Incentives are capped
at15¢ per sq. ft.

Energy Study Project Implementation
o If the rate payer agrees to implement all ECMs with a 2
year or less simple payback, the program will pay
100% of the study up to a $25,000 total incentive.
o A letter certifying all the required ECMs have been
completed must be submitted to Hawaii energy within
one year of the date of the final Energy Study Report.
Hawaii Energy will conduct a walkthrough to verify the
projects were completed.

Promote forward thinking on energy savings during the planning and
design phases of your building project.
Energy modeling, new technology assessments and scenario
reviews.
Equipment that works well together and goes beyond standard
energy efficiency is a worthwhile investment- reduce long term
operating costs and provide long-term savings on energy bills.
Help with new construction, additions or major renovations.
Incentives are limited to a maximum of $15,000.
